If I eat too much fibre I can get like that... I love vegetables and have to control my intake so I don't eat too much! (people say to ensure you're getting enough fat... I do this and can still have problems!)

I experience quite the opposite situation. I enjoy having grains, seeds, nuts, fruits and plenty of fresh veggies on a daily basis and this allows me easy relief every day. Stopping temporarily with the regime slows down my bowel and then I worry about constipation.
However, taking livingleanlivingclean's reply into consideration, perhaps the fat in the nuts and the seeds helps out.0 -
Fiber absorbs a lot of water in your digestive tract, so if you don't drink much you may get constipated. For me, some fat also helps. I drink plenty, and eat a greasy vegan doughnut if I'm feeling crampy and "irregular". Since I'm vegan (well, mostly), fiber is almost alway really high, and too much without lots of liquid and some fat is a recipe for digestive misery.1

I've found that if you drink more water (like 3-4 cups) it helps. You can also eat berries (blackberries, raspberries, etc) and chia seeds.1

Yes. don't know what causes it so I'ma keep reading up on this thread for opinions.0

I have had some serious GI issues, but it wasn't until well into 2-3 years of my logging food and lifestyle change. I tried medication but I'm trying to solve the issue myself now.
For me, I THOUGHT I was eating more fiber than I was. Because quest bars and vegetables. But I also eat almost no grains and no fruit.
I added some prunes, a fiber cereal, and berries. Boom. 6 months of agony fixed in a single day lol.6 -

Generally constipation is caused by a lack of one or more of these three things: fluids, fiber, and fat. I call these the 3 "F"'s of a healthy colon.
When I had an issue with it, I started eating more nuts, especially almonds. The fiber and fat really helped keep me regular.
ETA: Go into your "Reports" and see how much fiber you are getting. Women should be eating about 21-25 grams per day (men closer to 30).1 -
I eat a large bowl of oatmeal after I run in the morning with almond milk, strawberries, black berries, walnuts and chia seeds. Shortly thereafter I am thinking of the Saturday night live skit where they doing that infomercial ad for "Super colon blast". It works for me.

I have been constipated my whole life. The only time I am able to clean out is when I get nervous. It's worse when I'm eating less. I have been eating a salad every day this week, drinking lots of water. Yeah, still nothing.1

My life here too. I have started taking Benefiber but I still cant seem to get regular. I don't know what the cause of mine is. I just don't have to go. I know its healthier to go once a day, but I just cant seem to get back on that schedule.0 -

This was me. And I eat a ton of vegetables. Then I added a magnesium supplement. And I've been regular ever since.1 -
Has anyone looked into Leaky Gut Syndrome? Damage to the intestinal lining from eating the wrong foods for so long can wreak havoc on digestion >>

I've had the opposite happen now that I'm transitioning to a more whole foods, plant based diet. Things are moving through like 2-3 times a day. Pretty sure my colon is stellar now0

Sometimes yes. If I'm feeling bloated, I look to my diary and start narrowing down the culprit until I found the reason and then try to reduce or remove the culprit. Popcorn does this to me so I try to only have it once a week.0 -

Oh wow. Thought I Was the only one. When I get nervous I have to go to the bathroom too (i.e. before a big race or for some reason it's every time I get to the pool to swim). Glad I'm not alone!0 -

Fake disease. No such thing.4 -
Yep! I've attributed it to an overall less volume of food, and eating foods that get broken down more slowly. These are good things, so I try to think of my less frequent movements as a "good" thing too but it's uncomfortable sometimes more mentally than physically I think. I just have been so used to how my body used to work it's been hard to adjust to. But I know I get plenty of fiber, I have a good amount of healthy fats, and I drink plenty of water.
I wouldn't use laxatives or go to excess fiber, that can just backfire on you. If you're not completely stopped up it may just be your new normal. I know mine is at this point.0 -
I'm very regular, and attribute this to getting 35+ grams fiber daily from both soluble and insoluble fiber as well as drinking lots of water and coffee. If you ladies only need 25 grams daily it ought to work for you.
ETA I supplement with Magnesium also.0 -
Magnesium! 400-500g before bed guarantees regularity for me.
Just an FYI, my hubby went from going 2-3 times a day to being constantly constipated. We couldn't figure what had changed all of a sudden. After some brainstorming, we realised he'd been eating a banana, sometimes 2, every single night. So he stopped eating them, and bam back to normal. The bananas weren't the unripe green starchy ones either, just regular yellow ripe ones. Myself, bananas don't affect me negatively at all, so peoples mileage may vary.0 -
Not constipation, but I poop much less relative to eating less.0

Slows it down: protein, insoluble fiber, reduced calories (volume)
Speeds it up: fats, iron pills, walking, popcorn, foods that keep their bulk through the colon, metformin
Regulates it: soluble fiber, kefir, water0 -
For any others who missed the SNL skit - "Colon Blow"

I seem to get so bloated in the mornings so I try to drink a warm glass of lemon water then I do some cardio (walking or biking) before breakfast and it works for the most part.
Coffee also helps in a pinch if I don't have time in the mornings. I'm going to look into trying a Mg supplement though seems like a more natural solution!
Any ideas on how to wake up with a flat stomach and no bloating??0
