A little about me. I've always been small, 5'3 and between 120-135 even after having 4 kids. I was lucky! About 6 years ago I had to stop working to take care of one of my children, 3 out of 4 of my children have chronic illnesses and we were told at that time that one of them could not be left alone until Doctors could get his illness under control. In that time I also decided to quit smoking not only for myself and my kids but I was becoming a grandma for the first time and I want to be able to be the best grandma possible. Within 8 months of quitting I had went from 130 to 213!!! OUCH! 2 of my kids and my husband are diabetics so we don't keep junk in our house and actually don't eat it often, we have always ate healthy and we see nutritionists every 3 months for the past 13 years so I'm fairly educated on healthy eating, so I don't understand how I gained so darn much! Anyway, I worked my butt off trying to lose some of this weight, it's killing my back and I get out of breath easy. So I lose 40 lbs and felt like i was on my way. Then before Christmas I was diagnosed with a heart issue, now on heart meds and wore out a lot! I get tired very easily. My doctor says I do need to get back to a healthy (normal) weight because all the extra weight is putting more of a strain on my heart. However he does not want me doing anything that will raise my heart rate! Hmmm... no cardio?? Walking causes a raise in heartrate!! Hello!!!! But he also can't tell me how to make this happen being that I can't push myself the way I need to and I already eat as healthy as possible. Sooo any advice?? It would really be appreciated!! I'm scared to even weigh myself anymore bcuz nothing seems to change unless I'm gaining!! What are some things you all can think of doing? Thanks in advance! :-*

Sorry about your health issues. You didn't mention how many calories you're eating. You don't need to exercise to lose weight. You only need a calorie deficit. Have you entered your stats here on MFP to get a calorie goal?

I log every day, I was using a different app the last few months but decided to come back to FP in the past few days. I'm was on 1500 cal a day but changed it to 1600 yesterday because I do go to the gym although I can't do much, and I don't eat back my exercise. So as to a talk with my doctor I needed to up my calorie intake just a little to cover that exercise. I do try to stay under though.

How are you measuring your intake?

When I started using a food scale it was an eye opener for me. If you're not using one you could start to make sure your tracking is actually accurate;)

Weighing and measuring your food will make a difference. Getting rid of gluten is also key for a lot of people. I too had a large amount of weight to get rid of and when I did the above, I was able to release over 70 lbs in 7 months! I did not do much other than walk in the way of exersize during that period. I was able to maintain a fairly stable weight until I quit weighing and measuring my food. I also started 'healthy' snacking. Thirty seven of those lbs eked back on before I got back on track. It's been two weeks since I started back weighing and measuring and no snacking. In that time I've released 12.5 lbs and feel great. Good luck! You CAN do it, but it's not going to be easy.

i lost 95 pounds in 11 months with a bad heart. First 50 was diet alone. Weigh and track your calories stay at a defecit and ask your doc if just basic walking is okay. Speed walking raises it sure but i cant see him having an issue with a nice slow but longer walk. Not that its even needed, Can lose weight on diet alone. But i found for my bad heart it actually helped. went from being unable to take self to bathroom on my own to now i walk 10-15 miles a day.
