I recently keep craving sugar and salty foods. I am vegan (started last July, lasted for 2.5 months then kind of fluctuated being vegan). Started back fully two months ago. But I keep eating junk. Potato chips, corn chips and bean dip, dark chocolate w/almonds, Ben and Jerry non-dairy frozen desserts BY THE PINT

What are your stats and calorie goal?0

I actually just changed my profile info so it revised my calorie goal to 1,770 a day. I am 5'10, currently I think 222 lbs, and my goal since like forever has to get under 200. Ultimate goal is around 175-180lbs.0

No I don't really feel "hungry" because I try to eat throughout the day. 3 meals, snacks, lots of water, etc. It's just recently (more like for the past month) I've chosen unhealthy snacks0

Before you started craving the salt and sugar were you under cutting the amount of sodium and sugar you were supposed to be getting per day? The body tends to crave what it needs. I have heard some amazingly crazy stories. I heard a story about a guy who was iron deficient who craved clay because of the iron elements in it.

No I haven't cut out sugar or salt ever. As a vegan I get plenty of sugar from fruits, I like bananas apples oranges, few melons and I eat grapes here and there. I love to cook my meals and I season them using kosher salt or sea salt, so I'm not sure why the cravings. It's like I go a whole day eating good and then night time strikes and I want junk0 -
I'm not sure if this is what you're asking but...
If you are eating a nutritious diet, feeling well, and sticking to your calorie goal, I think it's fine to include some chips or a pint of B&J every once and awhile.
If your cravings are causing you to go over on calories, or if eating them is crowding out nutrient dense foods then it's more complicated. Are you going through a stressful time and this is comfort eating? Have you tried a substitute behavior when a craving hits? Like taking a brisk walk or making a cup of tea? Can you try giving yourself one serving and then putting the package away, or maybe you need to keep specific trigger foods out of the house until this passes?2 -

You pretty much nailed it! They are comfort foods. I have started going on daily walks when at work, on my breaks. It does help a lot and gets my steps in for the day. Tea is soothing too. I'm starting a detox Monday to help restart my body so to speak. I want to stay healthy, but I also want to lose weight, so I should just keep the junk food out the house...0
