Safe to eat?

Just cut into my (orange) sweet potato and it's half white and half orange. Is this just what happens when they go bad or some kind of weird hybrid ?

I personally would be disturbed and not eat it. But I have no scientific justification for that.

Maybe it was cross breed during flowering. Does it have a funny scent?

Could also be associated with soil type. I often get multicolored potatoes. But if smells funny, don't eat it!

It looks like it could be bleached from sun? I probably would taste it out of curiosity... haha.

My guess is it's an accidental hybrid and it's got potato and sweet potato sets of DNA, like different species of corn will do, and cauliflower (have you seen the new orange/purple cauliflower?) and cabbage. So I'd guess it's safe, but I'd still feed it to someone I didn't like first. ;)

I think I'll google this tonight.
