So I have been doing really good with not drinking alcohol. I've only had a couple drinks here and there in the last month.
Tonight is a special occasion and will be going to see my brother who is a musician perform. There will be drinks, and I know I will want at least one.
I already had a cheat day and I don't want to go over in calories today, which I already pre entered what I will be eating today. So I will have about 500 calories to spare...
On a side note, I'm not a beer drinker. Unless it's dark.

I am brand new to this diet. and I like wine. I know I have to give up my beautiful dark beers, but is wine on the chopping block as well? How about hard liquor?0

I'm not a huge wine fan... I like it every now and then but they don't have much of a wine menu where I am going.0 -

Lol... What about mixers?0 -
Mixers add too many sugar calories for me .... liquor straight up ... or with flavored seltzer water3
-
Vodka... If you need dilution, diet grapefruit, diet 7-up, or something along those lines will work nicely. Rum and diet cola should be about on par with these lighter mixes ...
Depending on the pour, you can usually get about 3 of these kinds of vodka (or rum) mixers in ya for the calories you'll find in a 6-8oz wine pour --1 -

Diet Coke. I am NOT a diet (or any) soda drinker. But if I want a Captain and Coke, you gotta do what you gotta do.
I've also taken to drinking flavored vodka with maybe a squirt of juice, on ice. Gin and diet tonic also. Oh and (I'm not proud of this but) I'll skip dinner and just snack if I'm drinking.1 -
I prefer rum and vodka0
-
There are lines of sugar free drink mixers. I have seen margarita as well as cosmopolitan and mojito mixes that are sugar free.0

Whiskey. Straight. Shot.3

After looking at net carbs, sugar, etc, my adult beverage is a dirty martini. Made with Tito's vodka which is very smooth. One of these and you're set. Another is gin and tonic made with diet tonic.0

I had a few gin and tonics last weekend and they didn't totally ruin my calorie count. Here are some lists I refer to when I'm in the mood for a drink
Cocktails - http://www.self.com/story/low-calorie-cocktails
Wine - http://www.masslive.com/drinks/2014/01/wine_press_which_wine_has_the.html

In general, here's some calorie generalizations for alcohol:
Typically a 1.5 oz shot of liquor is about 100 calories (a little less at 97-98 depending on which website). That includes vodka, rum, tequila, bourbon, whisky, scotch, gin, etc.
Cordial liquors like triple sec, Irish cream, schnapps, etc are usually around double that (so 1.5 oz = ~ 200 calories or higher).
Wine - 5 oz pour - 120-125 calories (but know what a 5 oz pour is...as some bars often pour way more than 5 oz)
Light beer - 85-150 calories / bottle (12 oz)
Hard Ciders, Regular beers - 175 - 200+ calories
Heavy beers - up to 300 calories
Most mixed drinks - over 250 calories to 600 calories each as they have multiple shots and full calorie mixers.
Mixers are where the calories often are...tonic water is 120 calories per 8 oz, full calorie sodas (cola, sprite/7up, ginger ale, etc) are 150 calories per 12 oz, juices are 120 calories per 8 oz.
Light mixers - seltzer waters, diet sodas are what you have to consider switching to, to be low to no calories.
Splashes of lemon/lime are also low to no calories.
My go to's - flavored vodka and flavored seltzer water, wine spritzers (with seltzer water not sprite/7up), light beer, bourbon and coke zero.
By the way, a "sugar free" margarita, which is the way I make it...are still going to be about 250-300 calories (1.5 shot of tequila, .5 shot of triple sec, .5 shot of lime juice)...any fancy cocktails/mixed drinks are too hard to know how they make it (ie, how many shots of what, calorie count of the mixers, etc), to accurately log unless you make it yourself. Safest at a bar to be specific (a shot, a bottle, etc)...else you could be having a lot more calories than you logged.1 -

Tito's vodka and club soda with lime. I usually go for Mich Ultra, but since you don't care for beer that's out. Sometimes I'll have Malibu and Diet Coke.1

Processco is about 85 calories a glass... that's like 5/6 glasses1

I was a vodka/soda drinker, anyway, even before I started counting calories. It has the added benefit of being clear, so sometimes at work events or nights out with a certain pushy group of friends, I'll make a deal with a bartender to serve me water in the cocktail glass for every OTHER drink. Because I can never believe how many obnoxious people want to be like, "why aren't you drinking?" and make like you're not any fun.1
