Hey all,

So you've convinced me -- I'm looking into getting a heart rate monitor.

My question is, where do I start looking? Which brands are the best? New vs. Second hand (on ebay)?

I'm a college student on a budget but I'm willing to consider high prices for better quality.

Thanks for the continuing help, motivation, and support!

Polar seems popular. I have an FT7 that works great.

Polar is good. Mine has lasted a long time. I had a Timex before and it only lasted a year. Whatever brand you go for get one with a chest strap.

I bought a HRM at KMart for $40 (Sportline S12) but was not happy with it! I recently bought a Polar FT4 from Amazon for $65 and LOVE it! Easy to use and it has a chest strap (was leary about this but it is comfortable and gives an accurate HR). It gives the HR, calorie burn, your target zone, length of exercise, etc and you can store the data.

After relying on the treadmill/bicycle at the gym to give me my calorie burn and HR, Im SO glad I have the HRM.....much more accurate and it makes it fun to exercise because it motivates you to work hard!

Good luck with whatever you buy! :)

I just got the FT4 on amazon. I was going to go with another brand, less pricey but everyone here swears by polar.

Hah, wow I'm glad I asked.... I was browsing ebay and saw all these wristwatch types for SUPER cheap and was a bit skeptical!

Now I have a better idea of what to look for

I just purchased the polar ft7 which during my research was a good mix of features and cost. I also considered the ft4 which is a little cheaper and has most of the same functions. They can be found for approx 75 or 50 respectively. I picked up mine from amazon.

PS. there seems to be a big price difference on some of the ft7's at amazon depending on the color of the wristwatch part.

I agree completely - I bought a sportline also then got a Polar FT4. I just love it. I highly recommend it.

Get a Polar.. anything else and you'll prob. be disappointed.

I have a Polar FT7 which I like a lot.. very easy to use/set up. I got mine off of drugstore.com for 79.99

i recently got the polar ft4 i was considering the ft7 as both have great reviews, decided on the 4 because the extra features on the 7 i figured i probably wouldn't actually use
