Cheapest place to buy almond butter (in store or online)?

Hi! I have recently gotten into almond butter (the kind with honey). I saw it in the store and it was like $14 for a jar! What???
That seems a little ridiculous to me, but perhaps I'm just uncultured and this is the norm!
Where do you buy your almond butter? I looked on Amazon and it seems like the price is lower if you buy several jars, but still pricey and I also don't know how long it will last on the shelf. I like to just have a spoonful (measured out and logged) here and there!
Thanks in advance!

Trader joes makes an almond butter that is $7 for a jar. I get the big jars from Sam's club for around $11. Most of the almond butter I see will last about a year unopened. If you are talking about the Justin's honey almond butter, I've seen it go for about $14.1

Thanks! I was looking at the Justin's honey almond butter, but I'm not attached to a specific brand yet. I'll check out Sam's Club!merchantmarine wrote: »Bjs wholesale
They don't have BJs around here unfortunately! I'll keep my eyes peeled!0 -
Make it yourself, it's fast, cheaper and, in my opinion, tastes better.3

Hi Alyssa...there is no recipe for almond butter. You need a good blender or food processor and the best almonds you can find, roasted and unsalted. grind to desired consistency, that's it.
Whole Foods Market has a station in their Bulk section where you can get fresh ground almond and peanut butter. In my opinion, it's the best I've found, in quality, taste, texture and price, usually about $8/lb.
I like it on a spoon, too, with a little honey or jam. Keeps the PB&J cravings away!2 -
Old thread, but I swore Target had Justin's brand for $8/jar. Their website confirms that price. I got the small packets first to see if I liked it for $2. Justin's website says $14, though. Woof. I haven't tried Kroger yet (prices aren't listed online).2

Aldi has the cheapest I've found. I prefer to make my own though. It's pretty easy if you have a good food processor. (I use salted roasted almonds and I'll sometimes drizzle in a little honey.)0

Put almonds in food processor. Pulse. Scrape down sides with spatula. Repeat several times. Be patient. Eventually, when it starts to turn to a paste you can run it steady (that is, you don't need to keep pulsing and scraping). I've never made it with honey, and I don't know how sweet you like it, but I'd start with a couple of teaspoons (10 ml) of honey for about 4 oz. (100 grams or so) of almonds. Taste it after it's turned to a paste to see if you want to add more honey in the final processing.
If you like your nut butters thinner for easy spreading, you can add a small amount of water during processing. (You can add it toward the end, when you have a sense of whether it's turning out too thick for your liking.)
Personally, I love smoked almond butter (process smoked almonds until they turn smooth). And pistachio butter (process pistachios until they turn smooth).
If you like your butters chunky, add additional nuts to the butter and process briefly.
Yes, homemade nut butters are processed foods.0
