Switching Jobs, Time off???
So just got word that my next job will start May 15th. 3 weeks from now!! Do I give my 2 weeks notice today and take a week off or work straight through and give my notice next week? I need insurance through May and the pay would be nice but I might be able to get away with an unpaid week. Thoughts, suggestions, experience?!?!

It's your budget. That will tell you what to do2

Do it and spend a week training like the Rock0

If you stayed employed till May you are most likely covered insurance wise through premiums paid at the start of the month and will have no lapse in coverage. You would need to check HR for this.
Otherwise have enough money to pay bills, have a little extra for emergencies?
Enjoy your new job!!1 -
Take a week off if you can. Do you have any vacation days that you can cash out?0

I just switched jobs with only a weekend between.
I was anxious to start my new job and probably wouldn't have enjoyed a week of stressing about starting up.
That said, now 2 weeks in I kinda wish I'd had a break.
So what suits you,0 -
Ok, going for my drug test over lunch then giving my notice to the engineering manager. What can I expect after that? Will they let me work 2 weeks or will that be it? I know it depends on company but anyone been told just to leave?0

If they tell you just to leave...ask them for 2 weeks severance pay. The reason being is I fully expect you are being professional and will diligently do your job for the next 2 weeks, and if they ask you to leave now, 2 weeks severance is in order. I am an engineer and I own my own firm. It is really not that much money and, as an extra bonus of telling you to leave now, I get out of keeping you in insurance for the month of May. My insurance costs are about $700/month per employee (and I pay 100% of their medical and dental insurance). There are other expenses incurred as well...but insurance is the biggest.0 -

Personally, I always take the time off. Money can come and go.0 -

Pretty sure they have to pay you the two weeks. At least that's how it goes at my Company.1
