About a month a go I watched a newly released documentary titled "What The Health," since then I've decided to cut out all meat and dairy. I suppose I could label myself as Vegan however I just don't like the negative condonation associated with that label. Looking for like minded health enthusiasts who try to follow a plant based diet or lifestyle for support, send me an invite if you think you could help add to my nutritional and dietary lifestyle goals.
Thanks

I agree, it's kind of sad that the label of vegan has such a negative connotation to it. I swear we aren't all crazy or going to push our beliefs on others! :)

I am looking forward to seeing that documentary, I have heard a lot of great things! I will send you a friends request. I have been eating plant based for the last couple of years.

Plant based eating is dietary lifestyle, I see being vegan as extending to my entire life, from rescuing animals to not wearing leather to my passion for helping the environment. So if I'm a crazy vegan then you probably are not :)

I admit it's a touch crazy to pull a glue-trapped mouse out of the trash (that the super threw in there) and then spend hours slowly getting him loose, then feed and rehab him..... It's crazy to stop the car because there's a chance the cat lying on the side of the road isn't dead yet, finding she is still alive, getting her fixed up, and she's still with me 10 years later.... But oh well, I'm nuts. At least I'm not a mean kind of nuts.

Of course I eat vegan foods too, but I've eaten too much of them, so I'm trying to stick to vegan meals but be a little healthier now. I've discovered my biggest issue was portion size actually. I was thinking I didn't have to limit "healthy foods" but I'm not tall or all that active, so I didn't need to eat like a football player!

I've gained and lost hundreds of pounds over the last 10 years and I've grown tired of it. I've really let myself go and I've gained a lot weight and a lot of health problems. Eating healthy and maintaining a well balanced diet has been one of the most challenging things I've ever faced. I've always been able to get in very good shape but I've always been unable to maintain it. My primary goal now is to have a 100% plant based diet, get in very good shape and more importantly stay there. xigdpf8uhr8k.jpg

These are just a couple of old pics. The one where I'm a little fat, I wish I looked like that right now, I've probably got another 15-20lbs to lose before I will look like that again and another 20-30lbs or 30-45lbs in total before I'll look anything like I used to. I really hope being 100% plant based helps make a noticeable difference in not only the way I look, but more importantly the way I feel. Being plus 225lbs doesn't feel so good on my back, knees and hips anymore.

Since going vegan I have noticed a significant difference in how I feel. It really helps with mood, sleep, energy etc. That being said you so need to rethink the way you plan a meal. Lots of vegans gain weight the first couple months because they aren't great at planning food yet. I would stay away from prepackaged faux meat protein and starchy carbs.

Hi Rachielz, in terms of needing to rethink the way I plan a meal could you look at my food diary and maybe elaborate more in detail as to what changes I could make. I've never had a problem loosing weight, the only problem I've ever had was keeping off. As of right now my daily calories amount to around 1,700-2,000 depending on my level of activity. I've adjusted my macros so that I have a high protein, moderate carb, low fat diet that falls within the calories I've set. Again, I've never had a problem with getting in good shape, it's always just been maintaining it. However since I've committed to a 100% plant based diet about a month ago I feel I've been doing a good job at not only loosing weight but doing it in a way where I don't lose my sanity. If you take a look at my diary maybe you can make some suggestions that I might not be aware of. Thanks!

Feel free to add me. I'm plant-based as a method of mindful eating. Trying to get to the point where I reframe food as fuel.

I think we often forget that the main purpose of eating is for fuel (energy).

I added you. Check out the book, "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. (Whole Food Plant Based way of eating.)

It isn't my thing but Dr Joel Fuhrman is supportive of plant-based diets, based on eating actual plants (and not prepackaged foods). He wrote Eat to Live (also a cookbook) and The End of Dieting.

If I were inclined for a moral reason, I think I would include bivalves (mussels, clams, oysters). They are great sources of Omega-3s, zinc, B12 (clams are the #1 best source of B12), and are as non-sentient as plants.

This is a really science-heavy Medium article on bivalves: https://medium.com/@TheAnimalist/on-the-consumption-of-bivalves-bdde8db6d4ba

Hi Freya, I've only been able to skim through the article somewhat as I'm getting ready to head out, but I will read through it when I have time. Thanks for sharing
