hello everyone..my name is erin, i'm 30years old and addicted to food. i need a change.

i'm going to start the 17 day diet cycle 1 tomorrow just wondering if anyone out there was interested in starting it with me.

a friend of mine helped me get going with the 17 day a couple months ago.. its easy to follow and works well but i ran out of the food and went to numberous cookouts and let myself fall off the banwagon.. as i watch the scale numbers go up i realize i can't do that anymore.. i need to do this.. i want to do this so as of tomorrow game on.. i'm starting my exercise and healthy eating routine.

i would like to loose atleast 20-30lbs but most importantly i want to learn to eat healthy foods and keep up with my exercise routine, for myself but also for my family. i need my energy back and need to kick the depression and anxiety which will be helped by exercise, eating well and looking better!

if your interested message me or friend me and lets do this together! i'm ready are you?

i was planning on starting today or tomorrow..but we can start on the same day to keep track of everything.i have about 20 lbs to lose due to my pregnancy weight.
  • diana, have you tried the 17 day before?

zabitha: in my opionion its a "diet" that helps you cleanse your system of the sugars and carbs that are not so healthy, it helps you intorduce some of these items back in slowly with portion control. things like 2 servings of probiotics a day 2 svg fruit but not after 2 due to the sugar, no carbs the first cycle (17 days) its 4 cycles of 17 days at the end we should be able to control cravings and make healthier choices. if you reach cycle 4 you can restart cycle one and keep going to get to your goal.. its just another way to try to be told how to eat and be held accountable for what you eat..
i probably confused you and someone else might be able to explain it better. it also suggests like every other program to increase your fluid intake of water and green tea..
    its all about portion control.

i would like to try but i can't see the diet? what does it consist of?
  • I'm not paying for the book so I guess I will just stay with my MFP profile and just chart it all down.

M cousin tried this. I had her show me one of the sample phase 1 menus for the day. I calculated it into MFP, came out to a little under 1,000 cals. So, there you go, eat less, & you'll lose :)

I think the benefits are the foods they focus on such as protein, fruits, veg, as well as the 17 day diet advising drinking green tea for a cleansing effect (which equals extra weight loss from water). It will teach you portion control, so overall, I think it's a good start for someone new to the game!

    Good Luck!

Erin, I would like to join your group. I tried the 17 day diet last April and lost 5 lbs the first week, but then Easter came and I fell off the wagon and have not been able to get back on.

What are you planning on using for the Green Tea? I've tried a couple of different flavors and there just awful.

Hi, I did this diet a few months ago. I lost about 15 pounds in the month I was on it, so it was successful, but HARD for me. I'm tall, and still have 40 lbs to lose, and am extremely active, (like burning close to 1000 cals a day between working out, walking and farm work) so the low cals were just not enough for me! Great cleansing effect though!

    Good luck!
  • this is info for those who are not sure what the 17 day diet is..

Days 1 – 17 are to “Accelerate” on a low carbohydrate diet that provides around 1200 calories. Eat unlimited lean meat and no-starch vegetables, two fat-free plain yogurts and two low-sugar fruits, a bit of oil, green tea, and 64 ounces of water a day. Typical for any low carb diet, fat-burning and fluid loss is favored during those days.

Days 18 – 34 are to “Activate” by calorie cycling (aka calorie shifting or calorie zigzagging), which means that the daily calorie intake cycles and recycles from low to high over the course of several days. The goal is to trick the metabolism to prevent it from slowing down. Two servings of whole grains are added to the above to raise the average calorie intake to 1500 a day.

Days 35 – 51 are to “Achieve” good eating habits that last a lifetime. This phase is the same as “Activate” except that lean meat is no longer unlimited and more grains and fruit are added, along with an optional serving of alcohol and a 100-calorie snack. In other words, the low carb diet is 'Out' and a balanced low-calorie diet is 'In' sans the processed food.

Day 52 and on are to “Arrive” at a lifelong eating plan, which is a constant cycling through phases 1, 2 and 3 - until the weekends when you can splurge. But don’t binge, says Dr. Mike, and if you gain more than 5 pounds, return immediately to phase 2.
