UGH Rough day!!

Today I did not make the best eating choices. A whole package of Trader Joe's peanut butter cups although delicious didn't promote my goals. I'd love advice on how to keep from having these days.

What made you eat the whole package? I often find if I overeat stuff like that, it wasn't out of hunger or the want for the food, but because of stress/fatigue/emotions.

.... I've learnt, over a long time, that feeding my emotions and stress with food isn't helpful. I need to talk myself out of eating them, and find other ways to get over the stress!

When I have a day like that I try to remember how the candy tasted. Did I like it or just inhale? If I ate a few then inhale I try to remind myself that it wasn't worth it and wasn't great. I also tell myself to get back on track the next day. We've all been there, many times. How you handle this event is how you learn how to "handle" the weight loss journey. You get better with practice :(.

Totally understand the feeling! My choices weren't the greatest today either (pizza and in n out burger). The great news is that tomorrow is a new day :) Keep your head up. It's a journey, and we are all here for you.

This week I decided that before i had a cookie (my current weakness) I would eat a handful of nuts and and some apple slices. Only after eating these things would i have the cookie. It seems to help! could you choose a couple of things as befores? then even if you do have a peanut buttercup your less likely to eat all of them

I am too embarrassed to share how my diary looks today. I've had a few amazing weeks in a row - found that my willpower finally just couldn't take one more "no" from my brain regarding what I shouldn't eat. Went on a slight binge, but I enjoyed every moment of it and don't regret it. I just figure that I need mental days like this every once in a while - I just let my gut guide my food choices and chalk it up to be stuff my body must be missing nutrient-wise (sounds good in my head anyways).

Truth be told, it's just one day in however many thousands that we are on this journey for - one day won't change much in the grand scheme of things. Just be strong with the very next choice and get right back on track... and don't make it a habit to eat poorly too often. We got this

How did a whole package of TJ PB cups wind up in your hands?

We don't keep candy at the house. Sometimes I want a piece of candy, I go out and buy one. I really have to want it. And I mean a piece, maybe two, not a giant snickers.

If anyone knows how to stop these days entirely, they need to write a book now because they will be rich :)

Or to put it another way, we are all human, and it happens. No one can be 100% all of the time.

There are days I drool over the thought of over eating peanut butter. One day I'll break, and I know it will happen. There are days I drool over the idea of stuffing myself with greasy pizza until I'm too full too move. I know one day that will happen again too.

I'm a big believer in not denying shame, and not denying negative emotions. If eating too many PB cups made you sad, made you ashamed.... remember those feelings the next time you have the urge.

One day won't make or break your weight loss journey. Just get back on the horse.
(FYI- I went about 1000 calories over my limit yesterday. Don't feel bad.)

As 88olds says, it's a lot easier if you don't have it in the house, but I know that can be tough. My family is not on this journey with me, and they keep stuff that I shouldn't eat (nor they FTM). If I'm eyeing something, I try to guzzle a bottle of water or eat an apple or carrots.

Also, if you're not planning meals ahead of time, you should be as often as feasible. Include snacks that are "treats"--PB, dark chocolate (or both together!), something that feels decadent but isn't as destructive as the piece of cake I came dangerously close to wolfing down for breakfast this morning. portion out those healthier treats into separate ziploc bags. If you feel like you really want one after eating other stuff, just take out one, go away from the kitchen, and eat it s l o w l y. You'll probably be satisfied with that.

Just make sure you're honest and log everything.

I hear you. I ate half a bag of leftover Easter robin's egg candy today. I have no idea why...I don't even LIKE candy. Sometimes you are just looking for something sweet and will grab the nearest thing that fits the bill. I agree with others that it's wise to be prepared for these moments (because we all have them!!) A good offense is a good defense -- maybe think of treats that would satisfy a craving but won't cause such bad feelings if you eat it?
