Diet Pop

Yet another question haha. I've sort of fallen off the wagon lately and need to get myself motivated again!

Does anyone here drink diet pop? I keep reading that artificial sweeteners are awful for you because they make you crave to binge later, but what if you resist that? I know I need to stop drinking so much diet pepsi/dr pepper, but it's difficult! Water just gets so boring, and other drinks have calories.

Any advice? Or is anyone else struggling letting go of these fizzy drinks?

I treat diet sodas like a dessert. I try to limit to three a week and usually as a reward/treat for myself.

My hubby stopped drink diet soda about a month ago. He lost 4 pounds the first week without changing his diet. He has been steadily losing weight. He had been stuck at the same weight for a year. He has decide not to drink soda anymore now.

I love Diet Cherry Dr Pepper, but I have one more than one a day. Try those sugar free packets you add to your water. Walmart has the Great Value brand & has a variety of flavors. Good luck!

I drink either water or Vitamin Water Zero. I do have diet pop when I go out if they don't have VWZ. I get it by the case at SAMS to keep the cost lower.
  • Try Powerade Zero or Crystal Light flavor mixes to change it up with the water for less boredom

I was a Diet Coke addict for a long time. I switched to cans of naturally-flavored seltzer water, which are in the soft-drink aisles at the grocery stores, and are actually cheaper than brand-name diet sodas. It only contains carbonated water and natural flavors. The only downside is, there's not a TON of flavor... they're a bit bland. But when I quit Diet Coke, I noticed that I had far fewer headaches, which is sometimes attibuted to the sweetners in Diet Soda.

Friends have said to squeeze some fresh lemon or lime into the "flavored" seltzer to give it some more zest, but I haven't done that yet. But I'm getting pretty used to the new, healthier stuff, and don't miss Diet Coke too badly.

    Good luck !!

They are a treat for me, too. After I've reached my water goal for the day (which is about 112 ounces per day). I pretty much cut out diet soda several months ago. Now one every week or two is enough for me. I can't drink more than that, it seems. I had one last night, as a treat.

I find that when I drink them, I get bloated, and have a harder time with keeping definition. I've substituted naturally flavored/unsweetened sparkling water, and that does the trick for me. Gives me my fizzy drink, but without the artificial junk in it.

I only drink them occasionally. Not even once a week.
I don't think they make you crave sugary things.
  • I was told by my personal trainer that diet soda is bad for you. For one the sodium count tends to be higher and for two the Aspertame is extremely bad for you. I was a soda junky for years so I understand how hard it is. How I did it was I had to slowly go off regular soda, then I went to diet soda and now I drink tea with stevia. I still have one every once in a while. Some tricks she told me to do was to have club soda and add lemons and limes to it. The health food store as "good for you' sodas. The other thing she told me to look out for with anything is high fructose corn syrup. She says that your body can't metabolize it. Hope this helps!

i have one about once a day or every other day. i dont find that i crave more sweets or anything when i have one though. Maybe im use to it? i have no idea. i was basically raised drinking diet soda, because my mom use to have one once a day as a "treat" since she couldnt have the real stuff because of diabetes. Now any regular soda, with the exception of root beer, tastes waaaaay too sweet for me.

I was a DDP addict. (Diet Dr Pepper) I am still , really I guess. But I gave it up cold turkey 2 weeks ago. I decided I will quit drinking it for a month to see how I feel and see if it seems to help any weight loss, etc. I think that all the increased water has helped my complexion.

I really love coke zero. even the thought of it makes me happy ;) lol. But, like you I know it really isn';t the best choice for me so like someone said before I count it as a treat and limit how much or more likely how often I drink it. I have turned to Luzianne Green Tea sweetened with truvia.

I just drink water, and like it, but here's a trick my mom uses: Club soda or other flavored sparkling water (unsweetened), with a few drops of stevia or chocolate stevia. All the flavor, none of the chemicals :-)

I have just a couple a week of them but I also use the ocean spray on the go which is also refreshing. The propel zero also tastes great but I usually wait until they have a good sale and then get them and get quite a few.
I am pretty much lose just a little right now but am close to my goal so I think that is part of the smaller weight loss.
I too have heard diet soda is bad but I would rather have a diet than all the calories the regular pack.

I know how it is to have a favorite treat-- even if it's bad for you. But if you're eating good 90% of the time, that's important. Even though it is practically zilch on calories, it is bad for you. The carbonation and the aspartame namely. So, if I were you, I'd consider it an occasional treat-- like maybe twice a week. Eventually you'll start drinking more water and crave that more. Before you know it, you'll be drinking it once a month!

I drink it daily. I've cut back quite a bit, and usually only have one diet soda a day, but I drink diluted Crystal Light or similar mixes the rest of the time.

I'll drink the occasional Diet Mountain Dew, (the caffeine does give me an energy bump) but if I need some flavor, I'll usually make some herbal tea or drink vitamin water zero.

    Hi,
I was the biggest popaholic in the world, I thought that it would be so hard to quit.
That was my biggest fear going into this weightloss journey.

There is nothing in any kind of soda that is good for you, just the opposite, a
nutritionist said that the carbonation in these drinks prohibits digestion and without
that you can't lose weight properly, plus you're right about the artificial sweetners,
they are bad news healthwise. You can get flavored water which really helps and after
you get used to drinking water you will love it, it's so beneficial, for your skin, and to aid
    in weightloss!
I do have a diet A&W or diet Dr. Pepper like once a month as a treat!
Everything in moderation, nothing should be off limits totally!

    Good luck to you!

I'm having trouble giving it up, but I am able to drink more regular water these days. I have a giant water bottle that I fill up before a workout. I tend to drink almost the entire day's worth of liquids within a few hours before the workout, during, and a few hours after the workout.

I still drink diet coke in the mornings, along with coffee and tea. I cannot get through a morning without a caffeine fix, and diet coke does not require any hot water or brewing, so I usually end up drinking it out of convenience.

I know caffeine isn't good for me either, but I can't quit cold turkey. I'm not sure I even want to quit yet anyway. I am still getting used to eating within my calorie limits and working out regularly. Once I've mastered those, I'll consider the caffeine addiction.

I drink mostly water but occasionally i have a diet coke. I too have been reading that the artificial sweetners are bad for you since your body doesn't know how to process them because they are not really sugar. I still drink them on occasion but I do believe that they do cause cravings. If you like iced tea you can put stevia in it. I heard that is not supposed to be as harmful because it does not go through the same chemical process as the others.

I drink water 99.9% of the time but I get burnt out so I like to put a pitcher of water in the refrigerator and put orange slices in it. Other times, lemon or cucumber. I really like the citrus green tea too.
  • I try to steer clear of anything with artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup, or "natural flavors". It's a personal choice of mine, but whether or not you choose to do so is up to your judgement.
