V8 Drinks - friend or foe?

Does anyone have opinions about the V8 drinks? I was reading Eat This, Not That! and it said V8 low sodium is a great snack, and a great way to get in veggies. I hate tomatoes, so I was wondering if anyone had opinions about the OTHER flavors they offer. (Mostly strawberry banana :) )

Friend or foe? Is the sugar in them good or bad?

They are great for people who otherwise wouldn't get any veggies, but personally, I am not a fan. The regular V8 tastes salty and gross to me. The splash flavors are good, but I'd rather just get my veggies by eating them so I get all the fiber that comes along with it. If you just drink the juice you miss out on most of the fiber.

The Fusion ones are FOE!!! the sugar content in the is rediculous......
  • I actually decided against buying V-8 yesterday after looking at the nutritional info again. Even the "Low Sodium" variety still has A LOT of sodium in it, and a 12 oz can has something like 70 calories in it. That's not a lot, but there are still a lot of healthier, more filling ways for me to consume 70 calories-- I'll stick to the regular veggies and drinking water for now. :)

    Hi,
I drink the V8 VFusion light, it comes in Strawbeery Banana,
Grape Raspberry and maybe another flavor or two which i have
not tried, but the first two mentioned are very good, and it is
an excellent way to get vegetables and fruit. I only drink them occasionally
when I don't feel like making a Veg. comes in handy!
Make sure to get the "light" because it has half the sugar as regular!

Hope I have helped a little!

I really don't like drinking my calories, so I don't prefer to drink something like that.

any veggie drink you buy at the store are going to be pasteurized, So that cooks out all the goodness in them but, other then that they taste good, have 1500mg of salt and go good with vodka, I say friend

I drink a small can (5.5. oz) can of the low sodium variety almost every day. It's only 30 calories, I love the taste and it's an easy added serving of vegetables. It feels good going down. What I mean by that, is that there are a few foods that just seem to make my body feel good when I'm ingesting them, and V8 low sodium is one of them. It's no replacement for regular vegetables, but I'm not lacking in those either - V8 is just one more way I'm getting a greater quantity of veggies into me.

I do like the taste of the Fusion varieties, but haven't bought any since I started on MFP, so I haven't analyzed them this way.

I would rather eat my veggies and fruits without all the added yuckiness. However, when I followed the SB Diet phase 1 I had about 6 oz every morning and it never hurt my sodium levels. Mostly because all of my other foods were pure and unprocessed. I'd say, if you can fit it in it's fine, but I wouldn't suggest relying on it for a veggie replacement. For me, it became a delicious addition to my morning meal. I still added loads of veggies to my eggs, but the V8 complimented it very well.

So I wouldn't say friend OR foe. I would say it's a nice drink if it fits, but not a replacement for the real thing ever.

Too much sodium, packed in a can (chemicals leach into the drink), plus the shady ingredients and preservatives.... not worth it in my opinion. If juice is the best way for you to get your share of vegetables you're better off getting a juicer and making them yourself (it doesn't have to cost a fortune either. Look in Craigslist and the sort for second-hand ones.)

The natural way is always the best way, I think. Cheers!

I drink the V8 Fusion Light. 50 cal and 70g sodium per 8oz. I usually only drink it with breakfast or sometimes dinner, but not even everyday. It's nice to have another drink option. I drink plenty of water but beyond that I don't like tea or coffee and try not to drink too much diet soda.

I drink the VFusion a couple times a week. Sure it's not the best choice for veggie & fruit but on my commute (60 miles each way) it's a good choice to ward of the hungries without too much guilt later. Convenience marts don't have many options for me besides water and sometimes I need a little more to hold me over.

V8 Fusion - Friend. Tastes amazing!

Regular V8 - Foe. Tastes like butt.

If you don't like tomato soup, I'd recommend just avoid the regular V8. I tried to make myself drink a small can of the low sodium regular kind. Bleh!

I hate tomatoes and I have to force myself to drink the V8 original, I figure I'll get used to the taste eventually. But its only 50 calories for 8 ounces (oh and I measure those ounces too, just to make sure) sodium is a tad high but 2 servings of veggies.

So daily I get about 4 or 5 servings of veggies thanks to that juice!

I drink it every other day. We'll see if it starts helping my weight loss!!
