I'm going to the gym later, so I went to track exercise to see what I'd be doing. Now when I'm on the treadmill, it tells me how many calories I've burned and it is between 100-150 for 30 minutes. Then when I just logged it in the exercise section it says 30 minutes on a treadmill is 388 calories. There is NO WAY that is accurate.

Never trust the machine. Ever. It also told me one time that my heart rate was 210.0

that depends so much on how hard you work what speed and what incline you do. i have been able to burn about 300 in 30 minutes my best advice to you to actually know more accurately what amount of calories you burn in a workout is get an heart rate monitor ( with a chest strap) polar brand is my fav i got my polar FT4 on ebay for $60 best money ive spent in a long time0

A heart rate monitor is the only way to know for sure. But the machine does take incline/speed into account. It doesn't know what you weigh so it isn't completely accurate, but it's likely closer than MPF as it knows more specifics of your work out. I would go with the lower number until you have an hrm to know for sure.0

Heart rate monitor. I don't have one yet, but that kind of discrepency is only going to be solved with an HRM. My recumbent bike and MFP have a major disagreement about how many calories I burn, so I go with a middle ground number by underestimating my effort as "light to moderate' instead of the intense I'm actually doing.
It's guesswork, and I need to get myself a monitor. But not right now--I have more expensive/important thiings to worry about.
