    i used to work for a company that sold that stuff and for the most part they were a bunch of scam artists, although focus factor was after my time. they basically appealed to people's self-esteem problems and desires to improve themselves to sell them over-priced self-help products and programs and then rip them off with a fake 30-day money-back guarantee.
