Are there any side affects to taking whey protein? What about whey with createin? (pretty sure I spelled that wrong)

If you have problems with milk then you could have problems with the whey protein powder. That's the only thing I could think of, that and getting too much protein.

None at all if you are a healthy adult with normal kidney function and not lactose intolerant.

Over an extreemly, (decades) long term, its been debated, but never scientifically proven that high amounts of protein (whey included) alongside excess amounts of creative can cause problems with the liver.

Unless your downing like 6 scoops a day (personally I have about 3), you don't need to worry. And if you are downing 6 scoops a day, if you have that kind of money maybe you should consider a better protein source than whey.
  • I know alot of people it causes constipation with.

I asked my Dr. and he said to just drink plenty of water when you take it.

I do 3 scoops a day no problems. Been doing it for about 7 months now, love it! EAS Chocolate Whey.

I’ve been using whey protein for about 4 years and I’ve never heard of anyone having a major side affect only person who’s had any issues is it upsets my uncle’s stomach. As for creatine I’ve never taken it, I've been told that if you have preexisting kidney damage or trouble you’re not supposed to take it, but people I’ve talked to have had no Ill affect. Just make sure that you don’t take too much, and remain well hydrated.

Cheaper wheys are more likely to cause gas and bloating. And yes, make sure you drink lots of water with creatine.

Yup, I intake about 2.5 gallons daily so no worries there :)

I would be very suprised if you have in fact never taken creatine. 100% of every single whey product I have ever used (EAS, Body Fortress, ON, Six Star), have had creatine mixed into them. Check your ingredients label next time, you just might be in for a suprise.

2 scoops a day for me, and NOOOOO constipation... trust me! ;-)

As for side effects, I have yet to hear of anything serious besides gas and stuff. Just remember that you get what you pay for, so I would personally avoid the cheaper whey proteins and stick with ones like Cytosport, EAS, Gold Standard, etc...
  • My elder friend told me he now has kidney problems from too much creatinine when he was younger. He now drinks Vi-Shape nutritional shakes that are remarkable. Feel free to add me :)
