Take aways!

So me and my partner have started to eat as clean as we can and count calories. Before we started we had a very unhealthy diet. We have cut out chocolate, crisps and take aways as we feel we couldn't eat in moderation. We've agreed on a 21 day ban of chocolate and crisps then we are going to reintroduce them. My question is... what's normal? How often do people eat takeaways and things such a crisps and chocolate? It's hard to know when to have a treat and eat in moderation when we don't really know what's normal. Thanks in advance :)

I eat takeaway about three times a year.

Chocolate maybe once a week, crisps 2-3 times a day.

If it fits your calories after eating a balanced diet why not?

Thank you! Yeah I think the same. We have only cut them out temporarily because I get addicted to things like these and would cut calories in my meals to eat junk.

I'm assuming takeaway is the same as take-out food. I normally eat some type of restaurant (bring it home) food once a week. I try to choose things that are relatively healthy and I always look at the menu online before going. My favorites are Thai curry or tacos. We have Baja Fresh and Chipotle, which are both Mexican restaurants with some healthier choices. I never eat at McD's, Taco Bell or KFC. Just nothing at any of those places that I want.

Chocolate - one square of dark chocolate most days after dinner. Enjoy it and log it.

Chips (crisps) - a couple times a week and I try to just have the "serving" on the label. Count out the chips and put them in a bowl. Enjoy it and log it.

Takeaway, once or twice a month.
Chocolate, hardly ever. (I don't enjoy chocolate that much tbh.)
Crisps, at least once a week. Usually more.

Crisps and coke are my weaknesses, and I can consume endless amounts of the stuff. Obviously endless anything does not fit within my calorie goal, but there's also no way I'm cutting those things completely, so I've been training myself to be satisfied with smaller portions. At first I failed miserably and went over my daily goal, but I kept trying and am finding it a lot easier. And the best thing about not eating it all at once is that I have more left over to enjoy the next day, if I can work it into my calories :)

I don't eat crisps at all have weaned myself off processed sugar and feel great. Used to have a takeaway every week but now that I see how much sodium is in my favourite, a chicken chow mein, I avoid that too because the high levels of sodium result in my body retaining water so I feel bloated. So I would say once a month for takeaway

Take out is really rare for us, uness you consider getting a prepared rotisserie chicken take out. We do that every couple of weeks.

We make pizza at home - tastier and faster, and we get exactly what and how much stuff we like (and that means pineapple!) on top.

Chocolate - whenever I can get it! If there was intravenous chocolate, I would be the poster girl! But always within calorie budget.

Same with crisps (chips) - I found Special K Cracker Chips and for a small bowl (20 grams) its 80 calories. I have lost 115lbs and have had these literally every night as a snack.

It was life changing to discover that I can still eat what I like in moderation. Sometimes my willpower is severely tested and honestly, sometimes I give in but overall I have learned to eat for health AND pleasure.

It depends on your taste, how much you can control it once you start and how it fits in with your calories.

I'm not massive on crisps but love chocolate and takeaways. I'll usually have one takeaway a week on the weekend. I try to be active on the weekend so it fits in better and am managing to be more than I used to be.

Chocolate is tricky because sometimes it's a trigger food that once I get a taste for it I want more! I'll try to fit it in 2-3 times a week as a snack (about 100 cals) or have more at the weekend so I feel like I've had a proper treat (something chocolatty about 500 cals).

You will need to experiment and find out what works for you. It all depends on if there's room in your calorie allowance. I try to move more so there's more room for foods I enjoy. I don’t believe in cutting out certain foods completely.

I eat chocolate every single day, and I lost 46 pounds. I had to learn to eat it in moderation, and it kind of works now. I eat about 200-300 calories in chocolate every day (but I am in maintenance). Yum.

With crisps, I still struggle with the "in moderation" bit so I pretty much never buy them, but if I'm offered some I'd eat them. Pistachios are another thing I never buy as I'd happily eat a kilogram of them.

Takeaways - I eat out or have takeaways relatively often. I now tend to leave between 1/3 and 1/2 of the meal for the following day. Or, I try to eat out/ takeaways as a large late lunch, and then skip dinner.
