You still got to eat, right? Just eat less than you normally do. And Set aside 30 minutes each day for some exercise, it's really good for you for so many reasons.

Exercise does help with moods. It might be what you need to get into the right zone. As far as food... while I make room for an indulgence or two in the course of a week, I mostly eat 'normal' meals, tracking portion sizes and calories and keep a variety of lower-calorie snacks around specifically so that I can eat them if I'm bored or stressed.

    What works for me:

    String cheese (80 calories)
Veggie dogs (Yves has one package that's 50 per)
Skinny Pop Popcorn (80-85 calories for two cups)
    Fresh fruit
Quaker Golden Squares cereal, dry (110 calories for 30 grams)
    Cherry/Grape tomatoes

It's basically options so that if I want something salty, I'm not grabbing for a bag of chips when I can satisfy the craving with popcorn. And if I want something sweet, the cereal is better for me than, say, caramel popcorn or jelly beans. (And I've been concerned about my iron intake; the cereal gives me 30% in each serving.)

I definitely have my days IN the zone, and my days OUT of the zone.

One thing that keeps me grounded even when I am OUT of the zone is to log with brutal honesty even on my bad days. I've had days where my calorie intake was 3X my goal . . .but at least I was honest with myself.

And sometimes I'm able to make things up by eating lighter for a few days after a big "out" day, but other time, I just have to close that day's food log and move on.

Does it mean putting on a pound or two that I then have to fight to take off again? sometimes. Is it the end of the world? no.

    But tomorrow IS another day!

When I'm going through a rough time I walk, and A LOT more than usual. I get off my butt and will spend 2-3 hours walking by the water. It's calming and relaxing and when I come home and want to eat a bunch of food that would normally bring my over my daily calories, I don't feel guilty. It's funny my SIL and I were talking about dealing with stress and she goes about it in a different way, she reads a lot, gets lost in a book and learns something new.
