I just started using Runkeeper to keep track of my walking. Does anyone else use it?

Love it!! Took me awhile to figure out some the fuctionality (I just never took the time to play with it), but there are some great features. I use it all the time when I am outdoors

I just wish they would add a "lap" function - sometimes I walk a .7mi loop a few times.

    Yup, love it!
I've used the fitness classes for running training bit now I've discovered the "target pace" coaching guide which is realy handy as I try to pick up my speed a bit.
I'd be curious to know if people with HRMs find the calorie count higher or lower?

I also use RunKeeper and like it. I have not started to get fancy with training yet, I can see some functionality I would like when I get there.

If you would like to be on my Street Team look me up! Same username -- LeighD

I love runkeeper and use it quite a lot, mainly for my cycling to work and my 10k training as I also use 'couch to 10k'. If any other runkeeper users are out there, join my street team, my name is pyrowill on there too http://runkeeper.com/user/pyrowill/profile

I just started using runkeeper after buying new non-Nike shoes, meaning I couldn't use my Nike chip and Nike+ app anymore. I have to say, I was incredibly disappointed by RunKeeper. Its GPS is waaayyyyyy out for me (I use a Garmin Forerunner 305 to track my runs), making it a pretty useless app for telling me how far I've gone. I've stopped using it and now just listen to music on my ipod and track my distance on my Garmin.

Been using it for a while, maybe 50 run/walks so far.

Had one glitch where the GPS went goofy on me and didn't track right, not sure if it was the app or the satellites that day.

I find the calories burned to be pretty accurate when I walk, compared to my HRM, but there is a bit of a discrepancy when I work in a bit of running. Overall, it's pretty accurate though.

    I love runkeeper!

I usually find the calories burned in runkeeper to be higher than my HRM, but not a huge difference. For example, tonight I think it was about 40 calories higher than my HRM, so in my book, that's pretty close.

Cool, thanks for giving me a comparison of Runkeeper to HRM. I find that sometimes the GPS loses it, but I don't mind that, as long as it gives me an estimate of distance and speed I'm happy.
One thing that I leart the hard way is that if you drop your phone (or yourself, like I did yesterday!) it will do interesting things to your speed and distance.

When you run is it over or under?

my HRM tells me a burned a bit more if I run than RunKeeper normally does, when I walk it's pretty close though.

I always shave about 10-20% off my burn anyhow, I just don't trust any of this technology and I'd rather underestimate than the other way around.

Agreed. I might steal your idea. :)

That's good to know that it runs a little "low" anyway. I also always use the lower #'s when given a choice.

Thank you Arron, Regina, Will, & Rom for the Street Team adds! :)

I am so excited for my first 10K since High School (that's 20 years, you know...) on U.S. Independence Day (4th of July)! If you want to have a laugh, track me on RunKeeper Live. The race is at 8:00 am Mountain Time (UTC -6).

I use Runkeeper and think it's excellent. I use it in two ways,:

    1) To upload my runs from my Garmin Forerunner 305 and be able to track my activity

    2) Times when I wont have my Garmin with me I use my iPhone to track (yes it's less accurate but it's still pretty damn close)

If you use the app to track it's not perfect, thats's because of the phone though not the actually Runkeeper. The same happens on all apps, they're only as accurate as the phone tracking.

Anyone want to add me feel free http://runkeeper.com/user/Sucha/profile

I use Runkeeper, I started a couple of weeks ago with it. I like it so far, it's really good although the calorie burn seems a little hit-and miss:

    4.8 mile run - Tuesday 19th July - Runkeeper = 578 cals, Polar FT4 = 568 cals
    3.44 mile run today - Runkeeper = 509 cals, Polar FT4 = 377 cals

Runkeeper is generally higher than my HRM but it varies quite - as above it can be anywhere from 10cals higher to over 100 out! I'm more inclined to go with the FT4 as it's got my height/weight etc in it and runkeeper doesn't... I assume that just works on pace or something?

You can set your height/weight/age in RunKeeper in your profile.

I could be wrong, but I would assume that it would take that info into consideration.

If you go to the Runkeeper website you can update weight/height there.

Thanks both - didn't realise that

Edit: have had a look and can see where to add weight and/or body fat %, but is there anywhere for age, height, sex etc? Sorry, I can't see it anywhere but I am having one of *those* days so it's probably right in front of me!!
