Missing my Workout!

Options
Hello, I'm 27 years old, and I have a deep vein thrombosis for a year now, and currently still on blood thinners.
I have been active physically before I was diagnosed.
How much longer should I put off starting to exercise again?

Seems like it will be another year, as I can't get a definitive answer from my Dr.

I had DVT in 2009 ... my left leg was chock full of clots. I was in hospital for 2 weeks and on Warfarin for a year.

While I was in the hospital, the nurses would chase me out to go for walks. If they saw me sitting in my room, they'd ask me when the last time was that I walked. My fitness level dropped way off, but I was still walking 1-2 km/day.

When I got out of hospital, I kept walking ... and then started cycling again about 3 weeks later. My first ride was about 6 km which was a mere fraction of what I used to be able to do. But I slowly built up and was able to ride a 100 km event a couple months later.

Nevertheless, I struggled with all my exercise. It was like I was slogging through mud every time I tried to do anything. I went from finishing long distance events with no trouble at all to having a 50/50 DNF rate.

Finally got off Warfarin a year later after seeing a blood specialist and that was wonderful ... all of a sudden I had energy again! :)

Now DO follow what your Dr says ... but perhaps ask directly whether you can do things like walk.

Have you asked the exact question 'when can I start working out again?'
