Fitbit and walking for exercise

I sync Fitbit to get my activity information. I love that my exact activity level helps to determine my calories in vs. Calories out. I understand that when I walk for exercise (which I do most days) that it is just counted in my step count and therefore shows in the calorie count. What about challenges that require a certain number of workouts? How do I count a walking workout without double counting calories?

If I am doing Hiit workout I sometimes take mine off so I do not feel like I am double counting but mine doesn't add all calories burned to MFP so I dont feel so bad for adding if I forget to take it off. To each their own I guess.0
