Hello,

do anyone have experience with the new Garmin Fenix 5X or 5S and the integration into MFP? If so can you provide me with a screenshot and maybe your experience both positive and negative. I am thinking about buying the 5x when it is released in Denmark.

I am also looking to buy a scale which automatically forwards the weight data into MFP. Do anyone have any good experiences with scales? Also want to know what information in transferred from the scale and into MFP, like water-, muscle-, bonedensity etc?

Best regards
Newcomer Thomas

the integration, like with all Garmins, is via Garmin Connect, which is connected to MFP

Yeah, I got that, but I dont have Garmin Connect yet, so was interested in finding out if the information transfered to MFP are so good, that you hardly look in Garmin Connect after the transfer.

I rarely look at garmin connect except to update watch faces/apps and of course to sync.

I use garmin connect and strava to review my runs. MFP doesn't really show route/segment times.

Cool. What about a scale? Any experience there?

I use the Loseit Healthometer scale. I actually have 2 since I live in 2 different places due to work.

It's another app. But at least on IOs, once it's all set up.. as long as your phone is in range I don't even open the app.

I've been using a 5S for a few weeks now... I do not wear mine 24/7, only for run/bike/swim so far so I can't speak to the syncing for overall daily calories. I use Garmin Connect and Strava to analyze my workouts. My workouts do come over to mfp as exercise/calories burned; however, it only rounds to the nearest whole number for mph which is annoying to me.

I've noticed that the 5S does calculate my calories burned lower than my previous Timex (chest strap) HRM.

Also note that the 5X and the 5S are opposite ends of the size spectrum: the 5S is the smallest face of the 5 series at 42mm--seemingly geared more towards women (considering the other strap color choices). I like it and it fits well on my wrist (I'm 5'7" average build with skinny wrists). My husband (who is only 5'9") has a Fenix 3--size is the same as the 5X at 51mm--and the sizing on that is more masculine. The plain Fenix 5 comes in the middle at 47mm.

I think that Connect is subtracting metabolic calories from workout calories before reporting. If that doesn't make sense I apologize.

But I do notice that Connect estimates lower than any of the other apps I use(I'm kind of a stats/gear junky so I'm running 3 trackers, plus my phone) I use the Wahoo chest strap which will pair with 2 devices simultaneously for HR monitoring . I don't really mind.

Thanks. It is really good information.

I was looking towards the 5X, since I am 192 cm (6'2" ?) and large hands/wrists. So I thought a 51 mm. would be perfect.

I have been using Garmin Connect (free app) for awhile with the Vivosmart HR and recently got a Fenix 3HR. I manually enter my weight in Garmin Connect and it automatically updates MFP. I believe Garmin also has a WiFi enabled scale called the Garmin Index that will do this automatically.

In regards to your screenshot question (too busy for that sorry) the two apps interrelate, but MFP only shows the exercise calories that are sent over from Garmin. You just see the MFP app. In Garmin you see the Garmin interface and then when you want to enter calories it opens MFP.

The calorie goals and how they are calculated are a bit differently because each app has different options.

No, because MFP is a terrible exercise log. If you want to see a map of where you ran or a chart of what your heart rate and power output were on a bike ride, MFP can't give you anything like that, you'll want to go back to Connect. If you want to see a graph of how your fitness has changed over the last year, you can't get that here. Etc.

Since it sounds like you've never seen Connect before, here's what exercise data looks like in it:

    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1694643846 (Bike)
    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1665957786 (Bike)
    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1652620477 (Nordic ski)

I step on the scale in the morning, enter the number into Garmin Connect on my phone or laptop, and it shows up here. If I were willing to pay for a smart scale it would happen automagically, but I'm not. Garmin's scale will work, so will Fitbit's and Withings's; they'll send your weight directly to MFP, who will forward it on to Garmin.

You asked for pictures, I'm not sure if this is what you mean or not but here goes.

Thanks for the pictures and information all. It was a screen shot of the App with the data transfered, but your written information described it so good, so I don't need a screen shot. :)

I looked at the Garmin Scale, but it got really bad reviews and that scared me to buy it. Wiithings got really good reviews.

Really good to hear the experience.
