Does weight loss go crazy when you are emotional??

I have been at this seriously just over 2 weeks. I have lost 12 pounds. I know that is extreme, but when you consider I have 128 to lose, not THAT drastic to start.

Let me tell you about my weekend....

Friday - Under my calories + walked 3 miles
Saturday - Under my calories + walked 4.4 miles
Sunday - 100 calories over and an emotional wreck. Drank 2 cans of DIET soda, literally 4 fried shrimp!

Today I am UP 3 pounds!!

I had a rough day yesterday, emotionally. Just what most of us gals would think of as hormonal (But it wasn't hormonal). I just felt blah, and stayed in bed a few hours so I wouldn't eat. Friends came over for supper. The guys wanted fried shrimp. I insisted on some being cooked in a dry skillet (so I would have some) I ate 4 small fried shrimp and went back to my shrimp and fresh veggies.

Why would I be UP 3 pounds today??? This is where I would normally throw in the towel!

It's most likely just water weight from the fried shrimp. I've had weeks where I've been under every day and exercised and been eating very well, then on a Friday afternoon after work I have a slice of pizza (but stay under calorie goal and exercise) and then on Saturday morning, I'll be up a few pounds on the scale. It's water weight from the boost of sodium that I eat. If you keep staying under your calories, drink water and exercise, then you should see the scale go back down in 1-2 days.

Don't give up! It's normal to fluctuate!! Trust me!

I would say water weight. Whenever I drink any kind of soda I bloat and retain water horribly. Whether its diet or not. It could also be muscle from so much excercise but to be honest I'm betting on water. I gained FIVE pounds overnight from drinking pop and eating junk while camping :( Just drink lots of water and try not to think about it for a couple days and it should come right back off :)

Stress causes you to not lose weight. For me the more I exercise, the more relaxed I feel. That is why I try to exercise everyday, but I also alow myself my treats so I don't stress over wanting them. HANG IN THERE!!
  • Today is a new day. Don't give up. Just keep doing what you are doing and the weight will come off. We all have a bad day or two and sometimes the scale isn't very nice to us. Hang in there!

stress can also have an effect on day to day energy and weight. That's why, as a trainer, I always reinforce the concept of averages when it comes to measurements of any kind. ANY 1 time measurement with the human body will be suspect with regards to weight loss and fat loss. Take 5 or 6 measurements over the course of 3 weeks, if they are all the same, then you can be much more confident in that number, but if they fluctuate (as I suspect) or trend downward, then you have to analyze the results and figure out what they mean.

Everyone has those days. Fluctuations in hormones, women tend to gain water weight throughout the month. When I ovulate I tend to pack on the pounds but once menses starts, and then ends I have lost weight.

Just to beat a dead horse I agree that it is water weight. I lost 8 lbs my second week and ended up gaining back most of that by the next week. Early on it's not unusual to see big drops like that since most people with 100+ to lose have a lot of water in them. It all evens out in the end. After a month or so of sticking to it you will notice a more steady pace of loss.

    Keep at it!

My weight varies quite a bit, I try not to let one weight-in affect me. Remember, this change in your lifestyle is not temporary, this is for the long haul, your weight WILL go down in the long run. Don't let one data point (or 10 data points!) ruin your resolve.

It is soooo funny you posted this!!!! I was doing good last week had dropped 3 pounds durin the week, I counted my calories all weekend, walked and exercised, and this morning I was so excited to weigh just to see that I am the same as I was last Monday!!!!!!! I wanted to throw the scale. I don't know but I am really discouraged too.

I think stress makes us gain weight. Really I do.

don't weigh yourself every day. You are just begging to be disappointed since body weight can fluctuate on a day to day basis.

My husband lost about 125 pounds. At the beginning (months, at least) of his journey, his weight could fluctuate as much as like 8 pounds in a day. You might want to live less by the scale and more by how you're feeling. A lot of weight loss programs suggest weighing in only once a week. A change you make today--or a challenge you don't quite overcome today--might take a week to show up on the scale. This is a big picture thing. You're doing great.
