I got the Polar FT4F off of Amazon. I think I paid around $70.

It's a more "basic" model of Polar, but I really like it. The most important thing regarding any HRM you get is that you want a chest strap. It makes it immensely more accurate, and you honestly don't really notice them while you're working out,

I don't know much about heart rate monitors. Why did you choose to get one? To monitor your heartrate to determine what level of exercise you are doing?

I have a Timex and its accurate...I love it..I check it against this site..its never more than 3-10 cals off...What ever one you get...make sure it comes with a chest strap...!! Some do not and they are no good at all!!!

Purchased the Polar FT4 on Amazon - $66 & free shipping! It's very easy to use and it works great! Shows you heart rate, calories burned, session times and it comes with a chest strap that talks to the watch. It's great!

I have a Polar FT7 which I love.. very easy to use/set up. I bought mine off of drugstore.com for 79.99.

I would steer clear of Timex.. the calorie count tends to be very overestimated.
