Hi everyone.
Will give you some background first.
I am 52 years old. 5'6". Started out at 70kg.
I am 16 months in to a new healthy life change.

I was doing 4 pt sessions a week for 9 months. Hiit, weights etc. Then i decided hey im fit i want to do a triathlon. So we changed training and i added swimming in once a week and up to 60km on the bike a week to my normal 4 pt sessions. Did my triathlon two months ago. It didnt go to plan but i finished. Yay for me. I wasnt proud or excited on the day as i had put so much work in that due to cramps in my legs i did really badly. But thats a whole different story.

My pt got a new job and i have been training myself. I have been running or cycling 3 days a week like before. But started really getting into weights because i love it.

Now my weight loss has always been slowly ridiculous. I lost 3kg in nearly a year. Yes if there was a show for the slowest loser i would won hands down. My measurements slowly dropped over that time. I have stick legs and a great set of girlie guns. The panda pooch is slowly going down but hanging on for dear life.

So with all this and really getting into weights, things seem to have fallen apart. Im now up to 72kg. Measurements are creeping up, but i do look different.

Days eating
Breakfast
2 weetbix
Morning tea
Tub of chobani yoghurt
Lunch
Chicken and salad sandwich on multigrain bread.
Dinner
Chicken breast
Two cups of raw stir fry vege.

What i dont understand and has me confused is why am i getting bigger and why is this such a slow process. Luckily i love the exercise and eating well. Cant remember last time i had junk food. Or i would be totally disillusioned.

I have had bloods done to make sure that all is ok. Only thing wrong was vit d was through the floor and has been corrected.

Its all very confusing. Thank goodness i get my pt back in 2 weeks because i have no idea what i am doing wrong.

Hi, I would t say you're doing anything wrong and to be honest you may have built a little bit of muscle in that time so that's why your numbers might be going up. I'd say take your weight daily and take an average at the end of the week. Then see what the weight difference is at the end of the second week. This will give you your best rate of loss as daily it can fluctuate so much due to water intake, sodium, sleep, stress and many other things. As for food do you track your calories on a day to day basis? Like how many are you consuming a day at the minute are they consistent? Also do you have like a step target a day too around your training etc? Los no weight is a slow process but if you're not tracking your calories daily and taking an average weight at the end of the week and comparing it from the last you won't know how you're doing. Another good thing is to take measurements once a week and I'd say pictures every two weeks because sometimes the scales won't move but pictures will say a different story and so will measurements.

You are at a healthy weight, albeit on the high end, so any weight loss will be slow. You have to be accurate if you want to lose weight at this stage. Are you weighing and logging everything you eat? 2 kilos is within the natural variance. Strenght training makes muscles retain water. A healthy diet is varied and anything can be eating in appropriate amounts.

It's only complicated if you choose to make it complicated!
If you are gaining weight over an extended period of time then simply reduce your calorie goal by a small amount.

Adjust based on results. Sounds like you are having great results in all aspects apart from your weight - so adjust your calories and keep the rest the same.

There exist apps and web sites that can help you look at your weight trend.

Libra android, happy scale iphone. Trendweight.com and weightgrapher.com

You keep saying your shape is changing. While training.

If your pooch has continued to decrease throughout, doesn't that make your exact weight number sort of irrelevant?

Thank you all for your replies. I was weighing and putting everything into mfp up to two months ago. Nothing has changed food wise. I try and stay off the scales. And just measure once a week. Same day. Same time.
Pav your right. Weight shouldnt and doesnt matter. Its that the measurements are going up that concerns me. I was lucky if i lost a cm a month off the pooch. Its just frustrating. I thought i would be done and dusted after 16 months and just maintaing by now.
