What kind of impact does getting up early have on you?

I am thinking of starting my day at 5am.
-Does getting up earlier cause you to eat more, because you are awake more hours of the day?
-Do you get more done?
-What have been the pros and cons for you?
-Are you more organised?
I was thinking of spending an hour in reflection/prayer, an exercising, and the rest of the time doing chores.
Does anyone fast until a normal breakfast time of say 7:30am, or do you eat as soon as you wake up?

I get up at 5 most mornings, but am usually asleep by 8:30, 9pm at the latest.
I don't eat breakfast, i drink coffee and tea all morning and don't have my first meal til around 1pm.5 -

Thanks. After reading many of your posts, I get the feeling you and I have a lot in common. Similar heights, goal weights, location, methods of losing weight etc.1 -

This for me too except I get up at 3:45 am.
Gym by 5am. Then I have the rest of my day to do stuff.

I'm awake and around at 5 am to make sure my husband is awake to go to work (he likes to sleep through his alarm; I don't). My hours awake are the same.
Changes:
- My meal times are shifted back about an hour. I eat lunch 10:30-11 am, have supper 4:30 pm.
- I go to bed 9:30-10:30 pm.
I delay my breakfast until my stomach is growly.2 -
I get up a 3am. It's great for everything except staying up late.4

I absolutely love waking up early in the morning. My alarm goes off at 4:40 and I walk the dog for a couple miles. That is my time to think, pray, and listen to the Bible on my phone. Then I come in, have a 2nd cup of coffee, and do my workout in the basement. If I'm on the ball, and knock it out fast, I have time to shower and eat my breakfast in peace before the kids are up at 7:30. Having a few hours to myself feels so very crucial to my sanity. That said, there have been times (especially right now that I'm pregnant) my body just tells me that I have to sleep in; in that case, I go with it, and I do notice I am not as hungry as early in the day. I do think the earlier I get up, the earlier I feel hungry. But since I eat small meals through the day and I stop at 6 PM, that doesn't matter so much to me.7

I get up at 5 on weekdays and try to be at work by 6:30. I typically just drink coffee on my way to work and don't eat breakfast until 8 or sometimes even 10 if I get busy and distracted. I have found personally that once I start eating in the morning I am just hungry, so delaying breakfast works well for me and has helped me control my calorie intake better.
I get alot more done and love getting home form work by 4, especially in the summer when I have 4 hours of daylight left. We have a small farm so there is always gardening and animal stuff to do, or I can just ride my horse.

Monday through Friday I get up at 4:15 am. I spend 15 minutes with my coffee and the local news. Then I'm getting ready for work and my commute. I eat breakfast at my desk around 7:30 (yogurt or oatmeal). I like getting up early on weekends if I have an early workout planned. This:
I've tried getting up earlier than 6am but already that is a struggle for me. And when I did manage to dray my sorry self out of bed that early (regardless of when I went to bed the night before), I usually managed to injure myself in some manner because brain was absent.

Getting up early on its own will leave me regretting getting up early. Getting up early for a workout will set me up for the day. I workout most days very early0

~ Nope, I eat my breakfast, lunch, dinner and my fruit snack which I graze on all day on weekdays. Weekends are often a bit different.

~ Pros: I'm not a morning person at all, so it gives me some extra time to get human-ready in the mornings before I see anyone. I like to do my wii fit routine in the morning. I can actually cook a breakfast in the morning if I want to. I'm not particularly rushed or hurried to get out in the morning because I have a lot of time (unless, like today, I get up late). If I do get up late, I can still do "the basics" (breakfast, shower, make lunch, etc) and get to work on time - I just have to cut out some non-essentials. I struggle if I try to "sleep in" and get a headache so ... getting up is the best option.
~Cons: I have to go to bed earlier. I don't sleep particularly well (not because of getting up early, just in general) so dragging myself out of bed can be pretty unenjoyable. If I have guests or am staying elsewhere it can be a bit awkward being awake. I live alone though so I'm not waking anyone up usually!

You must have the same circadian rhythm as my husband. He doesn't do well with mornings, but its happily awake and productive until well after midnight. Whereas I'm usually nodding off by 9:30 or 10pm regardless of when I woke up!
Unfortunately for you guys, society looks more kindly on us early birds than you night owls, even when waking productive hours are the same, just shifted.2 -

Up at 5am, glass of lemon water, eat something small, watch tv with cup of coffee while digesting, treadmill, strength training, take shower, wash dishes, make lunch for work, feed/play with/love cat, get dressed, leave house by 7:30 to go to work.
I love getting up early. I may start getting up earlier, I just feel like I get more done. I'm refreshed after sleeping and motivated to do things. I tend to go to bed around 10-11pm, sometimes even later, so I only get 5-6 hours or sleep which I realize is "bad", but my body doesn't want to sleep any longer than that. Even on weekends, I'll stay up until midnight/1am, but I'm never up later than 6:30.1 -

So much this. I get up between 3 and 4 most days. If I start eating, I can easily eat my days allotment before noon, and I am always so surprised because I dont feel like I have eaten much - just grazing. So I learned to postpone eating as long as possible in the morning. If I can make it til at least 7 or 8, it will be a fairly normal day. If I can push it til 10 or 11, even better (bigger dinner ). Drinking tea and getting distracted with work and exercise helps pass the time pretty easily without really feeling hungry. Its almost become a game - once I feel like I need to eat, i pick a time and tell myself to wait til then. Like if I am feeling hungry and the clock says 7:38am I will tell myself I can eat at 8am. Helps me to baby-step into some self-control !LOL

I'm a nightowl, have been all my life. I'm most productive in the evenings, and really have to force myself to get to bed before midnight.1 -

I'm up at 4:30 or 5:00 on weekdays.
- I have coffee around 7:00 (what time I get to work), breakfast about 9:30, lunch about 1:00, snack around 3:00 and dinner about 8:00.
- I don't get "more" done, because I've been doing this for years.
- Pros and cons? It's my normal.
- More organized? Again it's no change, so it isn't more or less of something else. It just is.
Note: I am in bed by 8:30 at night. There no way I could stay up late and get up early.2 -

Alarm goes off at 4:45. Lie in bed about 10 minutes thinking about how I don't want to get up. Get up, get dressed, workout. Drink as much coffee as possible. Get ready for work, get kids ready for school, breakfast around 7:20 (or 7:30 in the car sometimes). Bedtime is around 9:30 or 10.2

i usually get up at 4.30,cause i have to be at work at 6.i would not do this by choice, as i really really like sleep.going to bed at 20.30 while it's still daylight outside is not really great either,but if i don't, i don't get enough sleep.Aside from feeling tired later in the day, i haven't noticed any other side effects.0

I'm up between 4 and 5 most days, depends if I am doing a morning workout or not, plus I have an hour commute to work so if I want decent parking, earlier the better - but we also have a 24hour gym at work, which helps0

My routine has gradually evolved to the point where I now get up at 4am on weekdays.
- 4:00 am: get up feed dogs, take them out, make coffee, have a small snack
- 5:00 am: Lift weights in my basement + short run MTuThF, or Wed longer run outside (or on basement treadmill if I must)
- 6:30 am: shower/dress
- 7:00 am: get kids up and ready for school
- 7:45 am: off to work
- 10:00 am: Full breakfast at work
The key to making it work is a good bedtime routine. I prep my breakfast & lunch and lay out my workout clothes and work clothes the night before.
I love this routine because my evenings and weekends are free for kid's school activities and social events so I don't have to constantly try to figure out how to schedule my workouts. Nobody ever asks you to do anything or schedules a band concert at 5 am!
Again, this was a gradual evolution. About 2 years ago I got up at 5am, walked for 30-40 minutes and didn't eat at all until 10-11 am. I generally had my biggest meal in the evening when I was hungriest. Harder/longer am workouts have gradually made me hungrier in the am and my smallest meal tends to be in the evening now.1 -

No. I fast aside from 2 oz of milk with coffee from 3:30 am -11 am. I've never eaten before 10:30 am even when I was 220 lbs Intermittently Fasting fits my normal eating habit. If fasting for 16 hours a day doesn't fit your lifestule then don't try it. Its easy form me. Eating at 6 am and feeling sick all morning was hard but everyone said don't skip breakfast. I have breakfast at 11 am.

Absolutely, I cook breakfast every morning, Prep my meals and snacks for the day, and go to the gym all before 8:30 am. I'm thinking of Studying for my CPT in the morning since I have about an hour I don't really use for anything other than watching the news.

Pro getting stuff done early even on the weekends when I wake at 5 am instead of 3 am, Cons waking up in the 3 o'clock hour. I am not a morning person. I used to wake at 6:45-7:00am to head to work at 8:30 am!!!! what was I thinking lol

It really depends, I can be an utter slob if my mood is bad. I can wake up early and still be lazy. Being organized and getting things done takes effort wether you rise early or late.

I wake up at 6 even though I don't have class till 9:30. It gives me an hour to lay in bed and catch up on emails and check social media. Then I workout 7-8. Then I have plenty of time to slowly get ready and enjoy a long shower and breakfast. I enjoy not having stressed mornings. It has also helped me with self dicsipline. I don't nap anymore. If I forget a homework assignment, I have ample time in the mornings to do it too!1

I usually get up at 5:15 AM. I get dressed, walk the dogs, catch up on news online, and then go for a run. I only eat after I've showered and at that point it's pretty close to the time I would have eaten if I only got up with enough time to get ready for work so it doesn't make me eat more throughout the day.
I get a *lot* more done this way. I love not having to rush in the morning. The extra time means that I can always sit down to eat breakfast and I also have time to prepare a nice lunch to take to work. By the time I've gotten to work, I have already read the news and had a good workout so I feel like I'm ahead of the day. Once I got consistent with my bedtime, I found that I can wake up just about the same time on weekends without using an alarm. This was especially great when I was training for a marathon last summer -- I got my long run and trip to the Farmer's Market done before it got really hot.
The cons -- sometimes my husband wants to stay up late to watch a movie on the weekends and I'm just too tired, I can't do it. He's a good sport about it though.3 -
I'm usually up at 5 because I have work at 7 (damn hour commute)...doesn't really affect my meals cause I don't usually eat breakfast til 930-10am anyway. I love it, I've always been a morning person...the only bad part is being done for the night at like 9pm lol0

Used to love sleeping in. Then got a job where I have to be up early. So on days off I'm up at at it by like 8, I have the whole day ahead of me, plus at night I'm ready to sleep.0

Lately I've been getting up at 6 most days- It means I'm in and out of the gym before 8.30am. I quite actually like it and it makes me feel better for the rest of the day.0

I don't regularly wake up at 5 am. Sometimes I do. Just depends. Today I am up early because I was coughing and the cat was racing around at 5 am.
I eat around the same times of day even if I get up at 5 am or 7 am. It helps me to stick to an eating schedule even if my wake/sleep time can vary a bit. I am generally up by 7 am and go to bed 10-midnight.
I eat 8 am breakfast, noon lunch, 3-4 pm snack, 6 pm dinner, 8-9 pm snack
Sometimes I get more done when I am up early. I tend to be a morning or late night person.
Sometimes I just take a long bath or read uninterrupted if I get up early.
No change in organization I guess.
Cons- other people are sleeping0
