complex carbs before exercise

I see that I have not been eating enough, even before my exercise calories are added. I am alotted 1430/day and averaging 900. I am exercising another 300-600 a day, and not eating them either. So my question is, what are some good complex carbs to eat before exercising and how long before the exercise do i eat them?

    Great question! My favorite pre-workout and pre-race snack goes something like this.

    1.5 hours before: 1/2 PB & J on whole wheat or sprouted grain bread
    45 min. before: eat the other half

    I've been able to sustain heavy workouts for about 55 minutes with this. It's awesome. Carbs from the bread and jelly provide energy and fat and protein from the pb help regulate carb distribution.

    Good luck, and keep eating. When you eat enough, you actually RAISE your metabolism and you're less likely to hit a plateau!

    Brown rice, whole wheat bread, beans...these are all good complex carbs. I would probably eat them about an hour or an hour and a half before exercising.
