Injury and weights and calories - confused, discouraged

I am dealing with two injuries right now (left glute, right foot) and have decided I need to take time off from my usual cardio addiction of running and kickboxing. It sucks, but I think if I continue to do this high impact cardio anyways, I will only prolong my healing.
So, I am thinking of doing strictly resistance training for a month if I can find a program that is very low impact. My question is, would it be safe to do resistance training while my glute and foot are healing up? Also, how do I measure calories? Is it even worth tracking the calorie burns from weight training? I am used to burning at least 500 calories from my cardio sessions, so the reduced burn from weights will be sad for me... I am trying to concentrate on the fact that increased muscle will help my overall calorie burns during normal daily activities.
Any other words of encouragement are appreciated. I am so disgusted with my injuries. I am trying to think of it as a good opportunity to concentrate on my diet since I won't have that intense cardio to rely on when I screw up.

Are you able to get into the water?0

Be careful lifting weights with a glute injury as lifting with good posture uses the glutes! Make sure you don't start using your back to relieve it0

Have you considered yoga?0

I should look into a membership at a pool.0

Oh sorry, more to the point - I lost my first 7 pounds from just weights workouts when I was scared of cardio. Muscle burns fat so keep your weights low and your reps high I'm not sure about the calorie burn on resistence but you get that epic 24 hour raised metabolic rate that will help burn up your calories the day after0

I really think the only person who would know if it were safe is your doctor. And you. You know your body best. You know what hurts. But I'd really recommend asking your doctor. You don't want to injure yourself further.0

I am coming off of a two year injury in my left foot. I know what it feels like. I limped around for two years and was depressed about it all. DO NOT do anything that can prolong your injury-I know. I made mine worse. Nothing is worse than an injury.
Take care of it and don't push it. I know how hard it is to give up cardio--I was running, hiking, and doing step aerobics like a mad women and had to give it all up. I am finally moving again. I will never run or do step aerobic again--just low impact cardio.
Take care of yourself!0 -
Climingmountain - how did you hurt your foot? What was the injury??
Yes, that is a terrible thing - I haven't seen a doc for either injury. My glute I hurt about 6 weeks ago - still hurts. My foot I hurt this weekend - just stubbed a toe, but the pain is radiating into the ball of my foot. Maybe its time I called a doc...0 -
Still recovering from a bad fall I took 2.5 years ago running (dislocated my shoulder, rotator cuff tear, 2 SLAP tears to my Labrum and Grade 2 ATFL sprain on my left ankle). I had surgery on my ankle almost a year after my fall but it still hurts pretty bad at times. I can't point my toes and absolutely can not wear any sort of heel at all. It SUCKS. I didn't have shoulder surgery until about 8 weeks ago on June 1. STILL in PT for that and it is very discouraging because I really want to get back to the gym and just can't for another couple of months (total recovery is 4-6 mos post op). I can walk on the treadmill or I can do the armless elliptical machine. No weights.
I hope you feel better soon! Don't push it because it can make it worse in the long run and set you back majorly!!0
