post pregnancy weight loss

I am 21 years old and gave birth to my daughter on June 16th. Since then I have only lost 17 lbs, and that includes my 7lb baby and all the fluids that go along with delivery. I am currently at 158, and have a goal to get back down to around 120. Does anyone have any exercise suggestions? I am a member at my local gym and go at least 5 times a week, but I'm not sure if there are any specific exercises I should try for a post pregnancy body. I have googled it and found a few, just want to know what has worked for others. I am dieting as well, but as my appetite has not yet really returned that is going fairly well. My only issue in that respect is trying to eat enough.
thanks so much in advance!

cardio and strength training If you are breastfeeding you need more calories as well. Congrats on your daughter- she is beautiful! I have 2 kids of my own0

www.liveleanmd.com is a site with some awesome exercises, and the ab ones have really helped me get my pre-baby tummy back0

Zumba! It keeps your heart rate up, and all the hip twisting is helping my stomach.0

First, give yourself some time. Serious. It takes most women a year to get back to pre-pregnacy weight and that's okay. You gained the weight for a very very good reason. Don't be hard on yourself if it doesn't melt off and for some women it does, I was never one of those. I only lost 10lb during and immediately following the birth of all three of my children. I had a hard time losing weight while nursing (basically it didn't happen). This time it's been MORE than a year and I still have 10lbs to go but that's okay. Being a mother is worth it and I know it will happen eventually so it's okay.
Now as far as workout, again, give yourself time. There was no way I could get back into a regular workout routine until my babies were sleeping through the night. Second, I couldn't diet while nursing because it would cut down my supply (of course if you aren't nursing there is nothing wrong with that and go ahead and begin your diet). Lastly I LOVE the Turbo Fire DVDs. The only way I can workout is to do it from home while the children are sleeping (my husband has a weird work schedule so he can't cover for me and I don't like to miss kid-time anyway). They are a little expensive but you get like 12 different workouts and they are fun and I haven't gotten bored yet, been going 8 weeks now.0 -
just had a baby in April... gained 70lbs from the pregnancy after losing 90lbs in 8months in 2009 I have a bit more weight to lose than you guys, but I need motivation and support, and I have experienced consistant weight loss so I know how it needs to get done. Not only that, being able to post information keeps my mind focused on the prize.... CLOTHES SHOPPING . lol
If your body is not balanced, you will not lose. It needs those calories to burn the fat. U have to eat balanced meals/snacks too...rotating the intake and your exercise routine so you body doesn't get comfortable (plateau).
I learned about MFB after my first week of "eatting better". I have lost 7.5 my first week with no exercise (injured ankle)...just more forced movement and tighten abs (always). I just ate exactly what MFB recommended and try to come close to calories...the rest should balance accordingly. This program works because it is the only real way to lose weight...diet and exercise.
Hope we can help each other :happy:0 -
I'm sorry what is MFB?
My son is 22 months and I can't stall the weight loss any longer0 -
As someone else said, give yourself time. If you are breastfeeding, there are entries you can add to your food diary which give you additional calories - it's around 500 a day for exclusive breastfeeding and 300 once baby is weaning. Take your time though, and depending on the circumstances of baby's birth, check with your doctor before starting any new exercise. I started dieting after Christmas having had my son in July last year and I reached my first goal weight before his 1st birthday, so slow and steady wins the race ( I lost a similar amount to what you are aiming for).0

I say give yourself some time!
What ended up helping me a TON after my first was pilates 3x a week and tae bo or step aerobics 2-3x/week.
I'm trying to lose the flab from #3 now and Turbo Jam has been great!!0 -
You are doing great, just be patient. As far as specific exercises, I designed a 3-phase Postnatal DVD system called New Mommy Makeover. It was just reviewed in Fit Pregnancy Magazine as one of the top six postnatal exercise DVDs on the market today. Each workout is only 30 minutes and is designed to focus on the areas most affected throughout your pregnancy. Check it out and let me know if you have any questions! http://newmommymakeover.com/

Feel Free to add me as a friend.
I started to lose my baby weight in January when my son was 9 months old. I started out at 158 and after eating healthy and all my exercise I am down to 123. It has taken my 7 months and it was a long hard road.
I would say first eat clean. Lots of protein and little carbs and sugar. 12 cups of water a day. Dont drink pop either or eat any fast food. those are rules I live by. 75% of weight loss comes from what you eat
start workouts slow. I started with 30 day shred for 30 days and then moved into cardio and strength training 3x a week. Now I just pretty much do strength train 3x a week at the gym with 5 minute run to warm up.
Also dont forget it take away for your skin to go back. So as you feel crappy from your post baby belly just remember it will take months for the skin to go back down so lotion up every day!0
