Hello, I am 42 years old, 5'8" and 151 lbs. My heaviest ever has been 158 lbs (not counting when pregnant). I have always been in good shape and fit even when slacking for long periods of time in regards to diet and weight training. Unfortunately since I turned 40 my metabolism/hormones have changed and I gained a total of 19 lbs in a period of 2 years. I had went from 139 lbs to 158 lbs. Eight of those lbs were just gained in the last 6 months. The puzzling part is I wasn't eating junk food and if anything had cut back on soda and sugar over the last year. Because of this I had became increasingly depressed, moody and had totally lost my sex drive. (My poor fiancé)....What depressed me most is I love fashion and clothes and now almost none of my clothes fit. I refused and still refuse to purchase bigger sizes. I finally went to my dietician in tears and she said the FDA just approved a drug that might help me and she prescribed me - Contrave. My body had due became immune to Wellbutrin and Phentermine that she had put me on in the past. For those of you considering taking Contrave...I highly suggest it. I have just finished my first 30 days of Contrave and the first 2 weeks my weight loss was slow to none. I Maybe lost 3 lbs. but I would lose a lb and the next day I had gained it back. I stopped weighing myself everyday and now just do it on Saturdays. I think the first week my body was hanging on to the weight due to my sudden decrease in calories and lack of usual sugar intake. The first couple weeks I definitely yo yo'ed back and forth despite my strict 1300 calorie a day diet as well as cutting out soda and wine. Speaking of wine....I looooved my red wine and had to have my 2 nightly cigarettes to unwind and relax before bed. Mind you I wasn't taking Contrave for any other reason than for weight loss so I was surprised when Contrave eliminated my desire for those must have nightly cigarettes and my craving of wine. I have not touched or desired either since taking Contrave. I have been a light smoker for 16 years so I'm over joyed. The only time I quit was with Wellbutrin before I became pregnant with my now 7 year old son. I had started smoking again when I divorced his father when he was three. :-(
What an added bonus to kick smoking and drinking.
The 3rd and 4th week on Contrave I lost a little more weight but I had started weight training as well as continued to monitor my calorie intake. So in a month on Contrave I have now lost 7 lbs. My goal is another 11-14 lbs so I can be back to pre 40's weight. I would like to add my symptoms from the first few days of taking Contrave have been hot flashes, little moody, slight daily headaches in the am and the most prominent, excessive tiredness and dizziness. I wish the pills would have gave me energy and the gitters (like some people report) vs a sedative effect. I work from home so I can deal with the tiredness. As long as I'm losing the weight in a healthy manner vs my past method which consisted of phentermine, water pills and starving myself, I'm content with the tiredness and slow and steady weight loss. I'm hoping my symptoms start to diminish going into month 2 and can continue to loose 6-7 lbs a month. I hope I can reach my goal of losing 11-14 lbs by May.
Recap: After a month on Contrave I'm down 7 lbs, no longer smoke or drink. Hooray!
Anyone experience the extreme tiredness?

But if any lurker is reading this then this is a serious medication and not the solution especially when the "patient" is neither obese nor even overweight. Contrave should not be prescribed when the patient has a history of depression. This dietician should be struck off.

There are serious side effects to Contrave which includes an anti-depressant and a blocker of the effects of other medicines /alcohol/narcotics

A healthy approach would be progressive resistance training whist eating at a small defecit instead

It sounds hideous and less effective than losing weight healthily i.e. CICO and exercise!

I'd be seeking another doctor, you highest weight puts you at a BMI of about 24, according to the attached press release the drug is for people in the obese catergory (BMI 30 +), which you at your highest weight certainly wasn't. How irresponsible of your doctor.

I wouldn't say the post was spam, but then again it could be viral marketing...

I have been on Contrave for 4 weeks now. I too have noticed a lack of sex drive. I am 49 year old male. Before taking it, I couldn't get enough. Now, I really don't want it.

Hello, I just started taking Contrave. Today is my first day. I eat when I'm stressed and anxious and really hope this medication will help me with that. I noticed that these posts are from some time ago. Does anyone have an updates or more recent experiences they would like to share? Would greatly appreciate it.
