Hello I'm Sue. I'm trying to lose weight after been housebound for many years from mental health issues, agoraphobia and chronic fatigue. I also have under active thyroid so metabolism is already slow and I'm heading for the wrong side of 50 and struggling to lose weight and keep it off.

My weight has crept up to 13 stone, it's all around my middle, can't even get in size 20 jeans for plus sizes with elasticated waist band. Having to go up to (UK) size 22-24 to be comfortable in my clothes as can't stand feeling of clothes too tight against my skin.

I'm thinking of going on a liquid diet using the smoothies from Iceland (supermarket not the country) as I do all my shopping online. I live very rurally, don't drive and can't get on public transport to travel to nearest town to shop due to a combination of health issues so I can't 'just join a gym' as being in public is literally 'terrifying' for me right now and just the thought of having to go out brings on a full on panic attack.

I've got a wii fit console and got a second hand treadmill in the spare room as I currently can't leave the house to walk miles (i hope to though one day it's a future long term goal).

I was just wondering if anyone had tried the smoothies and knew if you could use an hand blender to mix them as I don't have a smoothie maker? I'm thinking of getting one of those smoothie/soup makers and having 2 smoothies for breakfast and lunch and a vegetable-based soup for dinner, will that help me lose the weight off my middle?

I'm trying to aim for 3 x 30 mins exercise sessions a week but I do have chronic fatigue so not sure until I try for a week how exhausting this is going to be, how long it takes to recover from and whether it's going to manageable every single week.

Any other older women with similar health problems trying to lose weight who can give me some realistic tips (considering my situation).

Thanks

Sue

I've ordered some new food scales off ebay as I don't have any. Got some boxes of 99 cal porridges too then I know exactly how many calories I'm having. Planning on having 2 of those as their less calories than the shakes and smoothies and one cooked meal in a slow cooker. Found a recipe book on there for light slow cooker meals with 400, 300 and 200 calorie meals. I'll get some apples, satsuma's and grapes in too for snacks as many of the low calorie health bars seem to have nuts in and I have a severe allergy to nuts.

Hopefully it will kick start the weight loss a bit while I see if I can manage exercising on a more regular basis to allow more calories. Just getting going seems a monumental task at the minute as I also suffer from depression, so I need to see some quick results to motivate me to keep going.

I want to lose about 3 stone and get from 13 stone to around 10.

How would I make something like a Kale smoothie with just an hand blender? Just put kale and water in a jug and hand blend it or does it need something else?

Kale is better roasted, IMO. Blended? With water? I suppose but doesn't sound very appealing. You know, you don't need to do smoothies to lose weight, just eat a little less of what you eat now.

I've heard 'Kale Crisps' are nice. I've never actually tried it, I was thinking it maybe tasted similar to spinach????
