Looking for a good routine to build core strength

So, I've been working out for about a year now, and doing strength building for about 9 months. I've really increased my arm/chest/upper back strength, and done a decent job on my lower body (which was always very strong, so I didn't focus on that).

However, I think my core strength is lacking, and since I love to run I'd really like to get my core stronger.

Currently, I max out at 75 crunches at a time. (I can do 2 sets of 75 --- can't get out a full third set). While this is a major improvement (started at only being able to do about 40), I don't think I'm building up very fast. I think the main problem is that I don't know any exercises that really work the abs/lower back that use weights. I do hip lifts, crunches, bicycles, Russian twist ... occasionally planks, and, of course, the push-ups help, too.

What abs/lower back workouts do you suggest?

try jillian michaels' 6 week 6 pack.

for general core moves - try jacknifes, planks, sit-ups, and supermans.

Oo, I didn't know Jillian Michaels had a program. I do <3 her.

Jacknifes.... *blanches*. I remember those from gym class. Scary stuff!

I also have found lunges (done correctly) also are very good for core strength

planks!! i do high plank, low plank, plank punches (punch right arm forward, then left, and alternate leaving one hand on the ground), plank knee tuck (tuck one knee towards opposite armpit and switch), plank run (high plank, and mountain climb with feet while in plank)...

planks are simply the BEST core workout. then there are also superman/bananas that you can do... lay down, and for banana, lift your arms over your head, put hands about 10 inches from ground and do the same with feet. then, without touching the ground with your hands, roll over and lift to work your back/core. then repeat rolling over to alternate between superman/banana.

She does! I have it and it's great (but I haven't been doing it consistently so I don't yet have results to share) however, she uses a variety of effective moves. :)
