I just bought a New Balance N4 HRM for women. I have it all set up, and i put the chest strap on (it appears to be accurately) and it is saying my resting hr is 216. I am taking my HR now and it is 78. I got up walked around to see if it would change up but it isnt....any ideas on fixes or do i have a bad HRM?

Did you wet the sensors on the strap/tried tightening the strap? Sometimes that can fix it.. if it doesn't I'd exchange it for a different one.

So here is what i noticed, when i put my wrist (with the watch on it) next to the strap, it is accurate, but when i take my wrist (watch monitor) away, like for running...it goes erratic?

Do you carry any other electrical item on you that emits strong electrical impulses? I will notice that when I get close to a dispensing machine or even in my van that the rate jumps. Sometimes cell phones, and I-pods can do this.
  • If you live near power lines that can affect it also. I notice when bike riding when I ride under some really big power lines it will read 278 each time.

There are other things that can influence it also, microwaves etc...

Oh my, if all of this affect it i may return it. Because, I wear an ipod to work out to, i work out on machines sometimes and i love to run outdoors, where they are power lines LOL.
While I am at it, does anyone know how to reset it so I can start a new work out without the old info?

I wear mine with an Ipod( I have a Polar FT7) and haven't noticed any crazy high heart rates with it.. I have my Ipod in am arm band on my right arm, and my watch on my left wrist.

As far as reseting it, it should start tracking fresh every time that you workout.... it should be a blank slate that takes you're current stats into consideration.

I plan to get a Polar later, but I have a Sportline with a chest strap from walmart 47dollars. . .and I have not experienced any of the problems that you have stated. . I would return or exchange it. . I love mine. . use it everyday. . and there are tons of electronic devices here in the house that I am around

And I wear mine when going shopping and such with no strange readings.. . .
