Quick question about low calorie diet and muscle retention

About to graduate and just want to trim down and finally see myself at my best.
This is probably a stupid question. Is losing muscle on a low calorie diet pretty much inevitable? If so, how can I best make sure I don't lose too much of it?

Don't set your calories too low, eat enough protein, do strength training/weight lifting.5

Okay. On a related note, would you know if taking creatine on diet or "cut" can aid in muscle retention?0

I talked to a couple of my buddies at work one of which was a former body builder, it is highly recommended to continue to lift when cutting / losing weight to try and keep what you have.0

It kinda depends on how big your deficit is. But definitely keep lifting.1
