To be sore after a strength training work out? I did some circuit training on my lower body the day before yesterday and it is the 3rd work out targeting my lower body. And I am still feeling it today. 48 hours later. Is that normal?

Being sore 48 hours after a workout definitely falls into the "normal" range. Actually, many people often find that they are most sore the 2nd day after a workout! I have found soreness developing within 8-12 hrs after a strengthening workout, and I am typically sore 1-2 days afterwards. If you are still experiencing intense soreness 3-5 days out, then it probably means you did too much, too fast. See how you feel tomorrow, and if it's still pretty intense then I would back off just a little bit until you adjust. But if the soreness has disipated, then I'd say you hit your intensity pretty much right-on.
Good luck!0 -
If I've gone a long time without working out then doing a tough workout, my muscles can be sore around 2-6 days at least. If I'm working out consistently then it's only a day or two.0

From Wikipedia:
Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), also called muscle fever, is the pain and stiffness felt in muscles several hours to days after unaccustomed or strenuous exercise. The soreness is felt most strongly 24 to 72 hours after the exercise. It is a symptom of muscle damage caused by eccentric exercise. After such exercise, the muscle adapts rapidly to prevent muscle damage, and thereby soreness, if the exercise is repeated.0 -
Second day after is always the worst. Normal.
Though I have pushed my calves too hard once to twice and was tiptoeing about in imaginary kitten-heels for up to 4 days after.0 -
I used to have that problem, I could be super sore 3 days or so after a workout, but now I eat quite high protein and have a protein shake after every workout, I'm not nearly as sore.0

Thanks guys, I must have never pushed myself so hard before. Usually I would be sore for almost 6 days after the first strength work out but after that maybe only the 24-48 hours after the work out, but I am pushing myself a lot harder. More motivated and dont want to loose momentum so I am embracing the soreness. Appreciate the reassurance.0

At my calisthenics class we call that 'second day burn'. Wednesdays are a killer for all of us as Monday is practice, especially in the first six weeks of the year when we push ourselves after having 8 weeks off over summer!!0

Normal! Anything ab related for me feels tight/sore for about 3 days. Arms last about 2 days, legs only 1.0
