Hi guys,

I'm trying to lose weight, I have lost 3 kilo's so far but now I'm using myfitnesspal to messure my intake more accurated. When I run the math i have an averages intake of 130 grams of proteine a day and myfitness says i only need to eat 89 grams of proteine. I have a 4 day deskjob and a sales job once a week, I train 4 times a week. My training are focused on musicle building (like a bodybuilder). But do I eat to much proteine to get ripped? Because I have read on the internet that to much proteine can slow down weightloss. My calories and carbs are on point for losing 0,5 kilos a week.

I hope you guys can help me with an answer.

Your kind regards,

JeroenDiet21

if you're in a deficit you're not going to build much in the way of muscle.

Protien should be 1 gram per kilogram of your weight or .6 to .8 per pound of your weight.
Its not necessary to get more than that. THe WHO guidelines say even less than this. North AMerican standards are higher than most other countries.
Too much protien evidently turns to sugar. I read that here on mfp.
Quality of those grams should be equivelent to what is in milk or egg.

Too many calories slows down weight loss.

130 grams of protein is certainly not "too much" for an adult male

No, for otherwise healthy people it's okay, I also eat more than the minimum amount. Keep weight training to improve your strength and add a bit of cardio for your heart and circulation as you're sedentary most of the time. If you're a beginner you may have some muscle gains, but as you advance it gets progressively harder on a deficit and eventually you need a different strategy, i.e. first losing fat, then building muscle on a slight surplus.

Too much of any nutrient eventually gets stored as bodyfat.

You haven't mentioned how much you weigh...
A big guy is obviously going to need more than a small guy all other things being equal.

Would be unlikely for an adult male to be having "too much" at 130g/day.

Being in a deficit and doing hard training are both good reasons to exceed the RDA compared to a person who is doing neither of those things.

    Too many calories would.
Beware of vague "too much" comments on the internet - how much is too much? For you? For me? For everyone?

Personally in a cut I would favour 1g protein / 1 lb of estimated lean body mass.

For extra information my weight is 74 kilos, i train my musicles for over a year now and I certainly don't want to lose muscle mass just fat. Thats why I keep focusing my trainings on strenght en building mass, to be jacked for summer.

Thank you guys for the comments so far!

It actually is true, through glucenogenesis.

And OP, you are actually good at those levels. I regularly eat 1g/lb of bw

Not too much at all. Personally, I would consider that bare minimum given that you are lifting and in a deficit.

You might want to check your math.

Also, the recommended amount of protein is different for someone at maintainence vs someone in a deficit or lifting or, in this case, both. The typical recommendation in 1 gram per pound of lean mass.
