So I started MFP in Jan or Feb and I was working out in the evening and it seemed to work well! I lost some inches and some weight. Then I got a little off track and restarted working out but worked it into my schedule in the morning. I am looking better but Im not losing weight or inches. I think Im just toning. Does anyone prefer to work out in the evening over in the am?

Thanks for any Info!!!

I prefer the morning. I seemed to have much more success in the morning - better engery, I feel great for the entire day, and my work out is DONE! Once I get home from work and spend time with my hubby and daugther, my energy is spent. For me the battle is getting up in the morning to get there! I am TERRIBLE for staying awake way too late.

I'm off to the gym as soon as I'm done logging my food. Its taking every fibre of my being to get my butt out that door to the gym...this is exactly why I love going in the morning!

I usually do both, actually. I do the 30-Day Challenge on EA Active (Wii), plus running, and some added ab and butt exercises. I do two days of all of that in a row, then take a rest day (even though I usually go for a walk or do the ab exercises on rest days). I do the running in the evening, everything else in the morning. I find that the strength/light cardio wakes me up and makes me feel good all day, whereas the running really helps me wind down. On the weekends, when I don't have work, I sometimes do all of it in the morning. I don't think it makes much of a difference, but I do enjoy it.

I work out at 830 pm. As long as you force it into your schedule, whatever works for you is great!

I prefer to work out in the morning. I am usually beat after work and dont think I get as much out of my workouts after work. That's just me and everyone is different.
  • I just prefer whatever time I'm most alert. LMHO! I get up kinda early in the a.m., but I'm usually in Bible study mode. I'm not in workout mode. So, I prefer to be awake a while. That's just me. I think it's best to workout whenever you know you'll stick with the plan. If you're not a morning person, but you try to get up at 5am & then go all out in a workout...well, you're more courageous than I.

What works for you, do that.

I work out at night usually (unless I just can't sleep sometimes, then I do a little bit over at my apartment gym before the day starts). I'm usually less likely to skip working out if I wait..because when I'm tired in the morning...I feel no guilt for not working out. All I can think about is sleep! However at night, the guilt of the day's laziness/eating gets to me! =P
  • I usually work out in the late afternoon. I am most definitely not a morning person and I like to be awake and in the mindset of working out before I exercise. Mentally, I am not awake/motivated/focused enough until about 1 pm or so...usually I work out around 3-4pm, before I eat dinner. Do whatever works best for you! :)

Evening workout. It's always been like this for me. I am not a morning person AT ALL and I'm sorry, but I refuse to get up early to work out. :) I have admiration for those who can and will do it, though.

I've tried both ways. I find going at night a little bit easier as my main excuse (too tired) is pretty flimsy. I figure if I were that tired at 10pm, I should go to bed (and that ain't happening).
I run outside and it is dark and cool at 10 pm whereas it's very bright and warms quickly at 7/730 am.
Night is the way to go for me! ^^

I like to do my sit-ups, stretches, push-ups, etc in the morning, though.

i definitely prefer to work out at night, after I put my 16 month old to bed. She's still fairly young, not too far removed from breastfeeding, and she sometimes wakes up pretty early. So I would really have to be out of bed by about around 5am...I don't even like to say the words.

As to what you said about not losing inches anymore - have you changed things up a little since you switched to mornings, or are you doing the same thing you were doing before? It might just be time to add something a little more challenging to your schedule. I don't think doing the work out in the morning vs the evening would make a difference unless you're outside. I sweat a lot more because it's hotter in the evenings than in the mornings. Maybe that is where you are finding the difference? Well, I'm no MD, but it might be something to ask one, next time you go in :flowerforyou:

Well, good luck and good health!
  • I do both. I go out for a walk at least 4 times a day :)

I do both. I do a circuit training dvd with the wife in the morning, right now we are doing 30DS, and then I run every evening.
  • I head to the gym in the morning for a 30 minute workout (fit it in before work). Then I have to force myself to workout in the evening with the 30DS a couple hours before bed. It seems to be working and keeping me motivated
  • Mornings are very tuff for me during the work week as I get up by 4am. I force myself to the gym right after work, and then feel a ton better once it is over. Saturday I get up around 6am and go for a long run, and I usually feel great afterwards. Sunday is all about rest, and greatness now that the NFL will begin shortly!!!
