So you lost weight doing MFP, but did your blood sugar numbers improve? (Age 52, 50+ #'s to lose.) I'm standing on the bottom of a large mountain, trying to decide how to make my journey, so to speak. Everyone insists keto is the way. Can I simply track my calories and exercise and get there the same way? Has it worked for you?

Keto is a way, but it is not for everybody.
age 5,1 have lost over 100# A1C dropped from 7.9 to 6.2 while i, personally, do not find the keto diet sustainable, too many other people in my house and i am not doing separate meals, i do try and limit my cards to around 150g a day, i'm not perfect in that but i do try. thus far, besides the weight loss and increase in walking, my doctor has taken me off one diabetes med (januvia) i still take the metformin.

as long and you doctor has you on meds that well control the diabetes focus on the CICO and the weight loss.

Lowering your carbs will help your blood sugar for sure. I'm 50 and I've been on a lower carb diet for right at 3 weeks now. Somewhere around 20% - 25% each day. So far I've lost 7lbs but the best part is that I've dropped one of my diabetes meds (Actos) and now just take my metformin twice a day. This morning my blood sugar was 108 and it's been a long time since I had that in the mornings. I'm also walking/jogging 3 to 4 times a week.

Keto or Low carb high Fat is the way to go. Trust me, i tried moderation and was not seeing any results. I have been strict lchf for 6 weeks and my fasting BS has dropped from mid 200's to 126. Even though i've only lost 5lbs, my BS numbers are good enough reason to keep going.

I'm just finally getting serious with my blood sugars and recommitting to losing weight so also want to see what others say. Not being diligent isn't working anymore.
