HRM or Pedometer

I'm looking into buying either a HRM or Pedometer to track my calories/ exercise throughout the day. Does anyone recommend a specific brand or where to buy one?
I've been reading that gym machines tend to overestimate calories burned and I really want to get an accurate reading. I'm also looking into purchasing 30 day shred, which I wont know the calories burned without using something.
Thanks!

HRM all the way! I have a Polar HT7 and I LOVE IT!! It tracks my calorie burn and I was suprised to see the difference in my workouts - I work harder because I want to see a big calorie burn at the end of my workouts!0

definately go with the HRM, they are alot more accurate, I had a New Balance one that did both, it was accurate on the pedometer, but the heart rate monitor wasn't all that accurate as soon as I bought one with a chest strap I dumped the NB one with pedometer.0

A pedometer tells you steps...the HRM will tell you calories. Polar is a good brand, but they're expensive. Get one with a chest strap, whatever you do.
FYI, though, I got a HRM and find that the MFP estimates are pretty accurate. Just a little off...0 -
I have had my HRM about a month and love it!! I go the New Balance N4. When I walk or run I use both a HRM and Pedometer. I have an app on my phone for the Pedometer. I also see a lot of people on here reommend the Polar HRM.0

I have an Omron Pedometer (the one that hooks up to the computer) and I really like it. It doesn't matter for me really how accurate it is. I just care that it is consistant so I can see improvement. I walk out for 30 minutes and walk back. As I get better, I get more steps and go farther. I used to count houses and that worked too:-)0

Hands down HRM. . .This is going to be the most accurate. .. Just make sure that you get one with a chest strap. . Most people are going to tell you Polar is the best. . .
And from what I have seen that is what most people have and are happy with. . . It depends on what is in your budget. .. I got a Sportline at Walmart for about 47dollars. . and I absolutely love it. . .
Wish you luck. . in your fitness journey.0 -
I'm a big fan of pedometers...I wear mine every day. I broke my foot 2 months ago & can't do lower body/cardio until later this week :grumble: so I wear my pedometer to track my calories burned/miles/steps. I got a moderate priced one at a sporting goods store; I like it better than the cheapo ones at WalMart/Target. Give one a try!0
