Help! The bride is trying to sabotage my diet!

I'm only joking she isn't really ....or I don't think she is!
Here is my dilema......
On Saturday I am going to my friends wedding and like everyone here I began to worry a little, as you do, when you eat out whether or not I would find anything to eat that wouldn't make too much of an impact on my diet. Well I found out yesterday that they are serving Fish and Chips after the ceremony and then Bacon Butties in the evening....ARGH!!!!!
What do I do, do I eat what I am served and have a treat day or is it rude to take my own food and risk offending one of my closest friends?? I am or will be only two weeks into my weight-loss journey and am worried that I am too weak and will revert back to my old ways.
Any help/advice will be much appreciated

Why not have a really big work out and use it as a treat day that way you wont go over and you will be able to socialise. After all this is a lifestyle choice and in life your not always going to bring your own food are you.0

Yes, eat the yummy food you're served, weddings are all about the celebration after all, but plan for it! Estimate how many calories the food and what you'll drink have and plan ahead either keeping the portion size down to stay under on the day or with a calories deficit over a couple of days beforehand. Try and get up early to burn a few extra calories before you get ready for the event too.
Remember this isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle change, and challenges like this will face you all the time in "real life".
I'd be willing to bet the bride's been on a diet for months too, and you should both kick back for one day!0 -
I agree with lcarter25. Have a nice old workout before you head out to the wedding and dance the night away0
-
I agree, try and get a decent work out in, and maybe just dont eat ALL of the food served. Work out the cals before you go so that you can decide how much to eat.....but at the end of the day, have a day off and enjoy your friends wedding0

What Berry said!
Enjoy it, and dont feel guilty about it and spoil your day - get some exercise in before and after and it won't harm at all!0 -
If you get yourself worked up over one days eating that you can't control you'll sabotage your diet anyway! It's better not to worry about it and just enjoy the day. Dance yourself silly that evening to burn a few extra cals too0

There is always going to be that, wedding, birthday, Christmas, New Year etc. You have to learn to work this into your healthy eating. You cannot be the girl who always takes her own food. Eat lots of veggies before the wedding as it looks like you're not going to get any there. Dance the night away to burn off the extra calories. Enjoy the wedding and let us know how it all went!0

Its only one day, and if you are really worried, only eat a little, dont finish what is on your plate, the bride wont be checking what you are eating. have a good exercise day the next day and you shoudl be fine. so dont worry and just go and enjoy yourself, weddings are fun and make sure and get up and dance loads great exercise after all that fatty food0

As everyone said - this should be a lifestyle change, and celebrations happen - this is not just any dinner party!!
Plan to get some exercise in before you go, and then on the day keep moderation in mind- a handfull of the chips - if you can take the coating off the fish before you eat it.....
With the bacon butties - one only ;-)..... other than that enjoy your friends special day - MFP and your new journey will still be here the next day - and that is the true test - to be back the next day - raring to go again!!0 -
Eat the yummy food then dance the night away and burn it all off! Its a wedding, done begrudge yourself a good time and just be good in the days leading up to it and after....!0

Eat well 90% of the time and enjoy life the rest of the time.0

I agree with everyone else - having posted on here last week asking if I should refuse an inpromtu dinner inivitation because I had not allowed for the calories - I realised that life is still happening around me and occasionally I am going to fall off plan despite my best intentions. I made a promise to myself that I can have the occasional "bad" night as long as I don't let it turn into a bad week :-)
At least you do have the benefit of being able to plan so in the days leading up and the days after the wedding try to fit in lots of exercise.
Eat as clean as possible before and aftern the event and drink lots of water.
Most importantly though - enjoy yourself!0 -
its her wedding, and its not one portion of fish and chips thats going to ruin your diet if youre eating well the rest of the time x0

Agree with the others, enjoy yourself without getting too hung up on the calories, increase your exercise to compensate before and after and maybe eat smaller portions, you can always just eat the fish and leave the batter to reduce the calories.
But, most importantly, have a fantastic time :happy:0 -
I agree, have a wonderful day and enjoy bit of it including the chippy and butty. From today on step up the calories burned, whatever you can manage...a workout dvd, a swim, a long walk or a run...something each day, drink lots of water and look forward to your reward at the weekend. Enjoy, you will have earned it :-)0

Its boring when everyone agrees with each other. So I'm boring - sorry!0

Stick to your naormal diet & exercise schedule before the wedding.... then....
Eat, drink & be merry....!
you might actually be surprised that you don't even put on a pound....
cheat days do work....
and even if you do.... some or most of it will be water weight from sodium, which will come of after a couple of days...0 -
Absolutely ... Keep the LIFE in lifestyle change. Go and enjoy! Drink plenty of water rather than soda and indulge responsibly and moderately if there will be alcohol. (but make sure you UP your water for the day to help your body process everything.) Enjoy the fish and chips, AND the bacon thingies (no idea what they are, but it sounds wonderful!) and above all else, have FUN!
Learning to incorporate these types of events into your life without fear, dread and guilt is the hardest part when you are beginning this journey, and I feel your pain when this is just two weeks in for you. But, don't let one day sabotage the rest of your life. It's not worth it. Let one day be one day, enjoy it! and get back on the horse the next day.0 -
How about, you come here and take care of my husband and kids, and I'll go to the wedding. Fish n chips and bacon butties? Fooking heaven that is. And then I'll moan all week about it and work out to compensate!!0
