Hey, I'm not new on here but I'm new at actually really trying to lose weight and get super fit for Tough Mudder on 24th September 2017. I want to lose 3 stone by then getting me down to my goal weight and would love it if there was some other Tough Mudder fans out there who would add me as a friend and help me along my journey and I will try and help you too.

Hello, I'm brand new here, but I'll give you some support.1

The messaging function is a little awkward and I can't figure it out... as is the friend function... so you may need to coach me through that0
-
Haha I'm not sure how to do it either I'll try and add you1

Hi RoughCutv2 and RunnerJazz1594...the friend request is different since I was on in 2012 but I figured it out! From this forum, click on a person's profile picture or name. Ignore the "Send a Message" tab and the "Ignore" tab in the box that comes up and click on the photo or name again from the box (you can send a message but I find the "Friend Request" is more direct). That will bring you to the person's page and there is a green tab "Friend Request". Click on it and you can add a note. I hope that helps (at the top of your home page, you will see alerts for new messages or friend requests)! I lost weight here in 2012, 20 lbs. I kept it off but in the last 2 years it came back on due to prednisone. So...I'm back. MFP does work and it is more fun with motivational friends. Feel free to "friend" me, we can walk this path to a healthier life together0

Haha yeah I sort of winged it with the friends request lol but thanks anyway.0

Hi there, I'm Hana. I'm 21 years old. I joined MFP on 2013 but I guess never really stuck with it. So currently, I'm on an almost 4 months semester break from university so figured I better focus on myself, just losing weight and getting healthy. I was at my heaviest by the end of February 2017 where I weighed almost 125kg. I currently weight 117kg and is working hard to at least be 110kg by the end of June and my main goal for my semester break is to be 90kg or at least below 100kg by the end of August.
I was diagnosed with GERD at the end of February 2017 and was hospitalized for 4 days because of it. It felt terrible as I felt like it was hard to breath, it's like a sensation of a lump in the throat. At the hospital I kept on throwing up the food I ate, I couldn't even sleep, I was crying most of the time because my GERD was really bad, I had to be on Xanax for a few days just so I could get some rest. It has been almost 3 months of me dealing with GERD and I have on medication yet I still have the symptoms, although it is now better as I do not throw up anymore and I am able to sleep. I am going to make an appointment for an endoscopy very soon just to be clear on what is the cause of my GERD and hopefully after that I will be able to get suitable medications that will make me recover 100%. One of my doctors did say losing weight my just be the cure for my GERD and after doing some research, I did find that what he said is true and most people who have GERD does feel better after losing weight. So, I hope when I do lose weight, I'll be so much healthier and happier as well and my GERD will be gone completely, forever.
So basically, I am determined to lose all this weight and be completely healthy again. I am going to take control of my life, this is it. Here's to a better life, a better me. If you have GERD or maybe you just wanna be friends, add me as a friend. I'd love to have people to encourage me get on the right track and it will be my honour to encourage my fellow friends to stay motivated as well. Have a nice day everyone! Thank you for reading, I appreciate it!1 -
Wow your positivity is infectious. I don't have GERD but I will add you to help you support you through your weight loss and I hope it does help in making you feel better x0

Hello! A friend just asked me to do Tough Mudder with her. I'm not a runner, but want a new challenge. I'm kind of nervous about it because this is a new thing for me, but also excited. Any other Tough Mudders out there, please add me!0

I did tough mudder last year and literally did not training for it and I managed so I think you'll be fine it's more strength you need especially upper body. It's so much fun. I just wanted to make sure this year I actually got in shape for it and thought it would be good motivation for me to get to my goal for then

Cool! I need to work on upper body. I can do the do the down part of a pushup, but not the up part. Are you following a training plan? Please share if you are. I can bike 50 miles without blinking, but anything else I try is starting from zero.0

I'm also super interested in doing it, I'd love to join a group of people training for it.
@amandaeve: For push-ups start smaller. Try doing dumbbell bench presses and increase the weight over time - ideally once per week. Here's a video to help out:

I will be doing a tough mudder in September too with a few 5Ks in between. Good luck...0

@robbrit and @Amyrebecca74, I just canceled my gym membership in April, weights was feeling stale, I wasn't doing a good job pushing myself on my own and needed a change. I have a trial membership at a boxing gym now. In my first session, we finished with a series of pushups, plank variations and situps. Everything was too advanced, so I just held each position when I couldn't do the movement. That seemed good, it showed clear opportunities for progression, assuming I continue to push my limit. I ended up a little sore, but not overwhelmingly so. It seemed like with weights, I couldn't find a balance between not progressing, or pushing so hard I'd be completely wiped out and discouragingly sore for the next few days. The trainer I met with once a month told me I needed to stop biking so much and replace carbs I need for biking with protein. Biking less isn't an option since it's my transportation and the most fun thing for me to in the world...but I digress.0

@amandaeve I'm not following a training plan but they do supply them on the website for tough mudder. I've just got a pull up bar which I'm going to start using and doing pushups, situps and stuff0
