i exercised a bit more than usual today and my net calories are at a way too low 883. i was thinking about having a tablespoon of peanut butter later on, is this a good idea? i feel that if im content with how much ive eaten i shouldnt eat more but i know i should be getting 1000 net cals bare minimum.

I'm still confused about the whole net calories thing - is this what you've consumed, have to consume, or what?... Someone did try to explain but I was still none the wiser :blushing:0

To clarify: NET calories ideally should equal GOAL calories. No matter the Calores eaten/burnt, if you Net calories equal your goal calories, then you've done a good days work0

your net calories are calories you've eaten minus the calories youve burnt exercising ive eaten about 1250 today (which is quite low because im not trying to lose anymore just tone) annd minus exercise calories its 883 which is way low. your net calories should be AT LEAST 10000 -
Hiya,
From what ive read on other posts here, your net calories are the amount of calories you should work towards in one day. So for example if yours was 1300 calories a day you need to eat that amount in a day. If you exercise and loose for example 250 calories that day then you need to eat something to build those lost calories back up. (someone please correct me if im wrong, im still new here and trying to work all this out!)
If you go to low under your net calories your body will go into starvation mode. so the calories you lose during exercise, it is important to boost them back up!
Hope ive helped!

Yep - Peamut Butter, or some nuts is always a good way to get some of those "last minute" calories in.... it is a very good principle to try and not go under 1000 net....0 -
thanks guys having 1 small carrot with a tablespoon of peanut butter right now0

Really, I cannot believe this, yesterday my net was 407, but I ate really really well and wasn't hungry. I know I will eat more than my daily cals allowance, is okay to balance over the week?0

you should definetly try to make it to 1000. nuts, dried fruits, peanut butter and avacado are all good for you and high in calories.0 -
Thanks, I'll go for the dried fruits, i love sultanas0

I am still confused...so like my goal is 1200 calories, I have consumed 341 calories already and I burned 420 calories today.... it says my calories is -79? What does that mean, my body is only functioning on 79 calories right now??? What would you suggest it say to truly maximize weight loss with MFP?
Also it added 420 calories to my daily goal...whats up with that? Should I just ignore it if I really want to stay within my 1200 calorie goal???0 -
You want to eat as close to your net calories as you can.
For example. Today my goal calories are 1,200. I just burned 260 calories playing on the wii with the kids. So now my net calories are 1,460. So today I would need to eat as close to 1,460 as I can. I try to be within 50 calories of my net calories everyday.0 -

You won't be within your 1200 calorie goal if you ignore those 420 exercise calories.
Think of it this way. Your goal is to have 1200 calories left in your body after exercising. You eat 1200 calories on the nose. You exercise 420 calories off. What's left? 780 calories. Your body is running on 780 calories instead of the 1200 you consumed because once you exercise it off, it's gone.
If you eat your exercise calories back, you'll be within your 1200 calorie goal again.0
