weekend vent

Had a weekend beach trip. I went over my calories on Friday evening for my daughter's birthday meal but still not too far over and on Sunday on the way back home I ate a couple things I probably shouldn't have while driving out of stress. But 4 lbs!!! I put on 4 lbs in one weekend. I just lost 2 lbs in the last month. I walked at least 7 miles this weekend on the beach in the sand and on the streets and sweated out in the sun. It's not like I sat around binging on food and not moving. This is so frustrating.
And I know how this all works but I'm so frustrated today. I gave up on this last time because I kept fluctuating for a while on the same couple pounds. I don't get how it's so easy to pack on 4 lbs in one weekend vs feeling like I'm starving for the last month and not losing more than 1-2 pounds that fluctuate weekly.
Please no bashing or saying things that I already know as far as losing weight because I know what to do in order to lose. I'm merely venting right now. It's frustrating to see pounds creep off when I feel hungry daily then I have one not even so bad weekend and gain 4 lbs. I didn't even eat anywhere near the way I was eating before I starting cutting back. I ate maybe 1700 cals per day two days this weekend - if that! Before I started on the 1200 per day I was eating around 2500-3000 or more and not exercising at all.

You were in the sun quite a bit on the weekend, right? Heat (and especially heat + sunburn) causes water retention.
Also, did you eat salty food on the weekend? If so, that will also cause water retention.
There are many things that will cause water retention.
You should pee it out in about 3 days time.3 -
To gain four pounds of actual fat you would have had to eat 14000 calories over maintenance. Did you do that?
If not, it's water weight. Drink lots of water and you should be back to normal by Wednesday or Thursday.
Things that cause water weight:
1. Excess sodium
2. New exercise/muscle repair
3. Hormones (ovulation and period)
4. Flying
5. Heat/Sunburn like @Machka9 said

I was the same a few days ago, the scale had me up like 2.5 pounds or so....for like three days. Today i'm at my lowest. don't really know what was up, but hang in there. My guess is its temporary and you'll adjust back down.1

I don't weigh myself after unusual weekends for the same reasons.
Sorry you're discouraged!0 -
I gained 2 lbs over the weekend in absolutely the same fashion--I'd been thrilled with my previous 3 lb loss. Seeing the scale go up again sucked. And I could tell by the way my body felt. My calorie count was the same. But it was very hot, I'm ovulating, and the weekend was stressful. I think it will come down again, but like you, I feel a bit sad and frustrated. I'll hang in there if you hang in there.0

Lots of useful advice above, I just wanted to add - You tell 'em. This losing weight thing makes your body act so darn wrong. 3 weeks of excellent behaviour and no change in the scales. Had a pig out this weekend so I expect to lose weight as that would be about par for the course! Keep venting, it's cathartic0

^^This^^ Just drink plenty of water and you'll be back to where you were in a few days.0 -

I encourage you learn more about water weight fluctuations and other normal fluctuations. It is easier to gain &lose water than it is fat. This is weight loss 101. The more you learn about how the body works, the less frustrated you need to become.2 -
I weighed in at my lowest ever Friday morning.
Saturday morning I was up 4.5 lbs!
I know it's mostly water weight... but it still really discouraged me.
I can really relate. The weekends awlays kill me.0 -
Women are especially likely to fluctuate 5-10lbs at any point due to water. Its physically not possible to eat enough to gain that much weight so don't stress. It'll go away soon enough.1

I gained 4lbs last weekend also! I definitely went rogue for a couple of days and did not drink my water but on Monday was back on track, drank my water and by Thursday was down the 4lbs.0

I feel your pain! I do so well during the week, feel hungry every day, eat clean, work out and lose a few lbs during the week. And then EVERY weekend I put it ALL back on by eating popcorn, pizza, a sandwich, dinner or something. It's not that I have eaten an extra ton of food or gone way off base, but it happens EVERY weekend. I get frustrated since I do so well during the week. But I get up Monday morning, get on the scale and start over from where I am. It will take me a few days to take them all off and then go down a half a pound to a pound to do it all over again.0

I "gained" 4 lb from Saturday mornings weigh in to Sundays. Knew it was gonna happen. Re-"lost" 1.5 of that from Sunday to Monday. Hope to be back on track by Wednesday or Thursday.0

That's how I gradually climbed to my highest weight. Turns out, I needed to keep my weekend eating in check too.
