Burrito Bowl...every day for lunch at work

So I was thinking of having a bean and cheese burrito bowl from Burrito boyz a few times a week at lunch. The reasons are..
-running late in morning to make proper lunch
-i love caesar salad but the one I make gets wilted by lunch time
-i like not having to think of a new meal for lunch daily
-it's affordable and about 5 minutes from my work place
-it tastes amazing and keeps me full otherwise I munch on nonsense
-tastes like a cheat meal.

According to their website: these are the ingredients:
Vegan Refried Beans, Vegan Black Beans, Mexican Rice, Triple Blended Tex Mex Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Green Onion, Red Onion, Green Pepper, , Cilantro, Corn, Made Daily Guacamole, Mild Salsa, Creamy Chili Lime Burrito Sauce, Sour Cream

Calories Info

1 container:
442 calories
24 grams of fat
10 grams of finer
7 grams of sugar
17 grams of protein
42 grams of carbs

I wanted to know what you thought of this as a lunch in my plans to lose weight and tone up. I am aiming for 1400 calories daily, and this would give me about 1000 calories left for breakfast, dinner, snacks. I am also going to be doing aqua jogging (beginner) a few times a week for an hour.

Your thoughts and comments are really appreciated :)

That is so much fat. I love burrito bowls but I'd skip the cheese and the sour cream and sauce.

If it fits in your calories then it's fine. I'd wonder how much sodium is in it though, which wouldn't hinder your weight loss, but could cause some water retention.

If you put your dressing and toppings in different containers from the greens, the salad won't wilt as fast. Also you can get an insulated lunch bag and/or add an ice pack.

If you're trying to lose weight the only number that matters is the calories. You sure that's the correct amount of calories? This meal seems reasonable and also looks like it'd be very satisfying.

The only thing I worry about with restaurant foods if if they are totally accurate on calories or if it's only approximate. Anyway, if you do this and finds your weight loss goes well, then I guess that means the calories are correct. If you have trouble fitting it into calorie goals though, many places let you request light portions on some of the calorie dense dressings and toppings. Just depends.

I'd question serving size... because I do a fairly low calorie burrito bowl at chipotle, and it's 2x as many calories.

ETA: my bowl is 2 servings of rice (each spoon is 3.5oz), 2x of fajita, chicken, tomato salsa, corn and guac.

    ETA2: This is 870 calories.

This sounds delicious, and I kind of wish I'd meal prepped burrito bowls for my lunches this week!! OP - it seems like these are pretty straight forward, and if this keeps you satisfied, have you thought of making them at home on the weekend and then just grabbing one on the way to work in the morning? That way, you can be absolutely sure that the portion sizes are accurate and you can control the amount of sodium, fat, or any other ingredient you may have concerns about. 442 calories is perfectly acceptable for a meal on a 1400 calorie plan IMO :).

Uhh how to say this. A daily bean burrito bowl would cause me to have a flatulence issue that would gas out my coworkers.
Just a thought I know not everyone is susceptible to this issue.

I'd make the same thing yourself from scratch... Not sure if it's prepared food or restaurant food but either way, calories can be off by 30% sometimes... and it can add up fast if it's something you're eating regularly.

Other than that, if it fits your calories and fills you up, nothing wrong with it.

ENJOY it - watch the sodium and calories - if your weigh loss stalls over time then know the calorie count is probably off AS LONG AS you're consuming enough water to make up for the possible sodium overload.

NOTE: If you eat one of these today and tomorrow you've gained 2 lbs...it's water retention from the sodium. Just be aware of that and make sure you consume enough water to override the sodium related water retention. You'd have to consume about 7,000 calories ABOVE your maintenance calories to gain 2lbs...

If that fits for your goals, then why not?
Personally, I try to get more like 30-40g of protein per meal though.

I used to occasionally do a low cal fajita bowl at Chipotle and those calories look in line with it (mine was 300-something), but it does have less protein and more high fat sides. Depends on serving size of the beans and other sides, of course.

(My Chipotle was chicken or pork, hot sauce, tomatoes, fajita, black beans. Add guac and it about doubled the calories, and I did not add sour cream or cheese.)

i'd say why not if you continue on track. being in the business myself i'd be wary of canned beans and rice mixes. judging from the nutrition sheet from the website you'll most likely get at least a good day's worth of sodium from the bowl anyway.

I was thinking the same. My bowl from Chipotle is 1 serving of rice, chicken, corn and tomato salsa, and cheese and the calories come to about 520 (or close to that).

I just wanted to say thanks so much for this thread! I've never had a burrito bowl before so I googled it, and it looked so yummy that I'm using the MFP recipe maker to meal prep my own version for the next 4 nights!
Mine comes in around 700 cals though, but packs a whopping 60g of protein!

Seems fine to me as it falls in line with your daily calorie goals.

I would second the questions other people are asking though: Are you sure this calorie count is correct? And are you sure the portion size is correct?

Rice alone clocks in at about 200 calories for a cup (not including any seasonings), sour cream is about 20 calories per tbsp (but most places will pile on much more than 1 tbsp) and guac is about 150-200 calories (Chipotle's is 230 calories!). That's not including all the other ingredients like the salsa or the "CREAMY burrito sauce."

Not to say that it's bad - sure sounds delicious and nutritious - but you will be the best judge. Do the ingredients feels clean, healthy, and minimal, or does it seems like there is a lot of cream & fat in the condiments? Do the portion sizes seem on target? Etc.

    Fat isn't bad for you.

    Hi everyone,

thanks so much for the feedback and help. So i actually went on their website and put in an online order and it shows me each ingredient option and it's serving size and calories. For all of the ingredients offered for a naked bean and cheese burrito bowl it says 450 calories. However, I just checked and if I opt for no onions, spices, hot sauce ( I hate spicy things) then it's a total of 370 calories. I just had one now and honestly I am so full!! I had it at 1:30 pm and I won't be having dinner til about 8 pm so I think that this can actually keep me satisfied until then but ofcourse I'll have a small snack to keep my metabolism up. However, next time I am going to opt out of refried beans and ask for extra beans instead so it's healthier.

I really appreciate that everyone was so nice in their comments, even those that were skeptical of this idea which was really nice.

Happy for you! You will love how it tastes sooo yummy!! Also they have small taco dips ready to go at some grocery stores and you can save time having to buy (refried beans, salsa, cheese, sour cream, guac) by using that instead. I prefer that because otherwise I have a bunch of ingredients that are left around in tupperwares until I'm ready to use them again. This seems simpler, cheaper and faster.
