I keep getting told I need to eat more calories, obviously good calories to lose weight but in my head I think if I eat more I won't lose any weight, surely a calorie deficit is better??

You can eat more but just lose at a slower rate.1

stop thinking 'good' or 'bad' calories...
set your deficit that allows you to lose weight while getting the nutrition you need (which is difficult if you eat too little) and not lose too much muscle in the process.3 -
You need a calorie deficit over time to lose weight - what in short is taught as "eat less, move more".
If you eat too little, you'll eventually cave and binge and undo all your effort.
Good calories, bad calroes is not a thing. Food is food and different foods contain different nutrition in different amounts. We need a lot of different nutrients every day, and a varied diet will provide us with that. We can generally eat what we want. What we want should be enough to keep us going, be satisfied, and feel energetic and happy, and taste decent.1 -
You won't lose more by eating more. You'll lose slower. But you're less likely to crash and burn if you eat a reasonable amount of calories that doesn't leave you hungry/deprived... so you could potentially lose more eventually by actually sticking to it.
I think that's the idea behind the whole 'eat more to lose more' thing...1 -

YES. A calorie deficit is better.
And it does not matter whether they are "good" calories or not.
Every individual person has a different definition of "good" so there is no real meaning to "good."
Eat the foods that suit your daily plan and that will help you meet your goals.

How many calories do you consume now? How much do you weigh? What is your height and age?1

Calories are not good or bad - food and calories are not the same thing at all and just leads to confusion when people use them interchangeably.
Yes you need a calorie deficit, it's the size of the deficit that results in the speed of weight loss. Often faster isn't better. Remember you want to lose fat not just weight.
You also want to build sustainable habits rather than go for a quick fix and then rebound again.1 -
Cheers guys much appreciated1

While a deficit is required, more(greater deficit) doesn't always equal better.1
