CrossFit Anyone?

Several years ago I used to have a personal trainer and it worked out well. I was 25lbs lighter than I am now and felt good. Career change, going back to school, and life conspired so I am on MFP for the last 41 days. I have been thinking about doing CrossFit in a couple of months when I get more time in on my diet and exercise plan. Anyone done it? I know it is intense and I am game for it but also looking forward to the social aspect of it and all the other benefits.

I started crossfit a few weeks ago and love it. I'm still not very fit but they scale everything to my ability and although it's hard it gives me a real buzz. I love Olympic weightlifting!!

I am looking forward to something like that. By and large the response to my interest has been positive, a few think that I am biting off more than I can chew right now. But, hopefully they will tailor the program to my level as I get going.

I've been doing crossfit for 3.5 years. I love it, mostly because I credit it with eliminating 98% of my lower back pain by strengthening my glutes and hamstrings with exercises I never would have attempted in a regular gym. I go 5 days a week, but I'm not as strong as a lot of the other women. I'm 40, so I make sure to listen to my body because the first year I had to work through injuries from the intensity. But definitely give it a shot. It can be life changing.

Been doing CrossFit for about 2+ years now. If you really are interested, I'd find a box, go through fundamentals, and then just give it a shot for a month or two. EVERYONE who starts CF, even people who think they are in shape, wind up completely floored at first. Having good "cardio" or being a certain weight doesn't prepare you for the way CF hits and overloads your energy systems. The first great thing about CF is having coaches to work with you on every workout. They will be able to scale any workout so you could it right now, next to a Games athlete, and you'd both wind up having a great workout. The second great thing is the community aspect of working out and sweating with others. You will be surprised at the support you get at a good box because almost everyone was in your shoes to one degree or another at one time. One of the biggest myths about Crossfit is you need to be in shape, or a certain weight, or have a certain cardio base to start. You don't. The longer you weight, I can almost gaurantee, the more you'll kick yourself down the road wishing you had started sooner.

Been doing it for a few years. Absolutely love it. Find a good box though and learn the techniques and fundamentals of the different movements before you start going heavy. One of the biggest benefits I have seen from it is my increased mobility from working on it everyday.

Sounds like a winner from you guys. I used to have a personal trainer 5 years ago and loved it. However he moved from the city I live in since then and I start anew.

I started crossfit 6 weeks ago. I'm pretty overweight but have been steadily losing weight since January and wanted to kick my exercise up a bit. The workouts are pretty intense but everything is scaled to my ability and I have GREAT coaches! I definitely recommend it to anyone at any fitness level. The community is so positive and motivating. Once you get going you will not want to miss a day. The workouts are challenging and fun and it's kind of like a group training session. The cost can seem daunting but you are getting more than you would get from any other gym or trainer.

You see excellent results from crossfit. My best advice is to really learn the fundamentals from a good coach. Its intense and if you don't have the correct form, you are likely to injure yourself.

Couple years into crossfit, definitely recommend trying it. Make sure the place you go emphasizes form over speed and scales appropriately.

My son was never one for taking an arduous jog by himself. But he liked Crossfit for the social aspect at first, I think. It really is nice to have social interaction at the gym, and people are supportive. Plus, the slightly competitive aspect, and having a coach there urging you to work hard, is like having a personal trainer; you get pushed.
Now, my son has lost about 30 pounds and he has gotten REALLY strong. He goes by himself now as much as he goes for scheduled sessions and he works very hard.
    It's been great.
I like the fact that what you do changes every day. You never know what you are going to get. That keeps it interesting.

Crossfit looks to be a great workout and the social aspect likely will motivate many to higher levels of fitness. I would think if you're a social person you should give it a shot. Even if a bit out of shape. What a great way to get back at it.

For me I doubt it would work as well. I lift angry. I don't want to talk to anyone. I want to stare at a fixed point and lift. I then when to stare at a wall or the bar thinking of the lift and getting angry for next lift. I have metal playing in the bluetooth earbuds (normally early Metallica or Pantera) and want every single other thing to disappear besides me and that damn bar. It's not only what I'm doing to get in shape but almost self therapy. Since I burn off the anger in gym my life outside of gym is more calm now.

I've a friend who just took up crossfit. It both intrigues and intimidates me.

I love Crossfit. Starting back in 2011, took a break when my son was born and relocated, and restarted a couple months ago. It has been the only thing, besides competitive sports, that I've really been able to stick with. I get bored easily and the constantly changing workouts keep me excited. The social accountability helps when I just need an extra incentive to tie my gym shoes. The guys and gals in my glass genuinely seem to care if I don't show up.

I will say this - there are A LOT more 'boxes' now than when I started, so you can and should be selective. Make sure you find one where the trainers properly scale the WOD's, focus on the newcomers not the competitors, and take the time to teach you the proper form.

Results have always come quick for me too. I'm down 4 inches this summer from my waist. Strength keeps improving every week.
