Cellulitis hangover...

I had a nasty case of cellulitis last year and it's left a bump at the bottom of my leg. I still get general swelling issues (though I do take precautions like keeping my leg up when sitting and raising my mattress at night), but specifically there is a fleshy, solid-ish lump under the skin where the huge blister was, and it's there even in the morning.

It's embarrassing and ugly and I don't want to wear skirts in summer :(

I have a doctor's appointment in two weeks to finally deal with it but any ideas why this would be and what can be done about it?

Anyone else had this issue?

Hi Woodsmoke. Sorry to hear that you're dealing with this. My mom had terrible cellulitis about two years ago and it was a *long* recovery process. Six months after being released from the hospital, her lower leg -- from the knee to the toes -- was hard as a rock, and was still so swollen that she couldn't put on a shoe.

She finally ended up having lymphatic massage, which did wonders. She had a treatment every day for two weeks, and came home with her leg wrapped from thigh to toes with a high compression wrap. At the end of the two-week treatment, she was given a "sleeping stocking" to keep the swelling at bay.

It sounds like your situation isn't quite as bad, but ask your doctor about lymphatic massage (very different from regular massage).

    Good luck!
