Hummus!

I was just wanting to know if you like it or not. I read about it all the time on here and wanted to know if it is a good as everyone says. Also, do you make your own or buy it. I am going on vacation on friday and wanted a healthy snack that my husband and I can eat while my parents and brother were eating the unhealthy foods. Would this be good to take?

Hummus is delicious! Trader Joes had great, pre-made hummus. It needs to be refrigerated, so I'm not sure how good it would be to travel with.0

I love hummus! I make my own in the food processor:
1 can garbanzo beans (chick peas) strained and rinsed
2 TB tahini (sesame paste)
Juice of 1 lemon
Lots of crushed garlic (if that's what you like, I love garlic and I throw a heaping tablespoon in there)
Enough water to get to the consistency you like (I like mine not too thick, but not watery).0 -
It would be great to take, but you will want to keep it refrigerated. Excellent dip for vegetables, in sandwiches instead of mayo, spread on pita or whole grain crackers.
It's a breeze to make - soak chickpeas overnight, then boil until cooked. Put in a blender or food processor with olive oil, tahini, garlic, salt, and lemon juice.
That said, I usually buy it. My favorite brand is Trader Joe's (the chipotle pepper and organic original), but most grocery store brands are good too. Just watch the sodium content.0 -
I LOVE hummus!! I dip ANY kind of raw vegetable in it, put it on fresh pita bread, put it on crackers with cheese, put it on sandwiches, put it on burgers... By the way, did I mention I LOVE this stuff?! LOL. Where ever I would use mayo or ranch dressing, I replace it with hummus.
I tried making it myself ONCE but I don't have access to fresh chickpeas or tahini... And I don't have a good food processor so it was a MAJOR flop. I can only find two brands in the ONE grocery store we have here in good ol' Middle of Nowhere... Sabra and Anthenos (sp?). Sabra is my favorite out of the two. I've only ever had classic hummus but bought roasted garlic this time around (it was on sale) to try.0 -
I like it very much NOW. The first time I tasted it, I spit it out! It's funny how what a person likes can change.
My point is, why not try it first and see if you love it right away.0 -
Ok, it I made it I would make it there... we have a full kitchen... my parents are making lunch so I will make this for my husband and I...OR I will prob. just buy it...lol0

You wont know until you try it - we all have totally different tastes! lol
I could bath in the stuff! yum, yum, yummy!0 -

YUM YUM!
I love Hummus. Fresh and Easy has really good plain one. I used to love the Red Pepper one but I ate it so much I got grossed out so I won't eat it anymore. Plain is def the way to go it has such great flavor.0 -
Love it and I always have it in my fridge. Great with bell pepper strips, carrots, cherry tomatoes and pita pieces.0

i love hummum, it might by my favorite food, and its a goof snacking option, but its also VERY easy to turn it into something unhealthy. prepackaged, and homemade, depending on what kind it is has 35-70cals in 2 taglespoons. great for a snack, but if you are trying to replace unhealthy meals with it, you are in for trouble. California Pizza Kitches hummus and pita app has over 900 cals, and thats not just from the bread. Togos regular sized hummus on wheat sandwihc has 780cals. hummus is filling ang yummy as a snack, but only as that. dont try to replace you whole meal out with it, whan you go to record calories later you will regreat it and be over what you think your totals are0

I love the original hummus by Eating Right or the garlic lover's hummus made by Cedar. Only 2 g fat for 2 T!0

Oh and also, where at in the store will it be loacated.
At Trader Joes & Fresh and easy it's by the cheese...not sure where it would be in a "regular" store though...0 -
hummus is yummus HAHA it is so good, i like roasted red pepper hummus, mediteranian olive hummus, chipotle, lemon, etc etc! I usually buy Sabra and it is in the refigerated section where you would buy cheese spreads and stuff!! good luck, hope you love it!!!0

I LOVE LOVE LOVE SWEET CHILI HUMMUS especially with carrot sticks. its so nomnomnom0

Oh and also, where at in the store will it be loacated.
Depends on the store, but I find it with either cheese/dairy or near the produce section.0 -
I love Kroger Spicy Three Pepper and Roasted Red Pepper Hummus. I do not like plain hummus but the flavored ones are good.0
-
I love it, and can't keep enough of it in the house. My five year old's favorite is the roasted red pepper. I like the garlic or roasted red pepper the best.0

located throughout the grocery store, the marzetti brands that i have never had because they dont look as good are in produce witht eh refrigerated dips, but the ones i use are in the deli section with the fresh pasta, prepared deli foods, etc. my recommendation would be to start off with a flavored one the plain one may have a "funny" taste to you if you are not used to eating chickpeas.0
-
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!! I make my own but you can find it in the cheese section or produce of most markets.0

When I read your title I immediately thought "...is the best!"
I love love LOVE hummus. You have to watch your portion size with it though. 2 tbsps is usually the serving size. I will usually have 3-4 tbsps but eat it with veggies instead of pita.
That being said, my favorites are:
Trader Joe's -Any flavor. I recently had Edamame hummus. Yummy
Sabra- Roasted Red Pepper or regular
Athenos- Roasted Red Pepper or regular
Try it with carrots, whole wheat pita, cucumbers, or bell peppers. Enjoy!
p.s. I wouldn't buy hummus from a restaurant. They are much oilier and they usually give you way more than 1serving. If you get it from a restaurant, just make sure you share.0 -
We have a typical grocery store here and I've found it in two places: with refrigerated salad dressings (near bagged lettuce) and with specialty cheeses and sausages. Best thing to do is ASK. I discovered it can be in several different locations in our store. Check the deli counter too. Ask if they make any fresh hummus.0

I think Sabra makes the best pre-packaged hummus, but if you have a food processor I highly suggest making your own. And yes, it is super delicious! I like to eat mine with grape tomatoes or carrot, green pepper, and cucumber sticks. If you eat it with veggies instead of crackers or pita chips it's easier to keep the sodium down. Although, it does taste mighty delicious on bread and it's much better than mayonnaise. Try it as a sandwich with some sun dried tomato paste and a thin slice of muenster cheese on wheat bread. Delicious!0

Love hummus. Have been wanting to make it myself for some time but just haven't. Thanks for the recipe on here . Gotta watch the serving size with it. I like it so much I can eat it by the spoonful!0
