As any one tired it? If so, did it work? Please share your story and meal plan.

Also does anyone know of any food that would keep you full longer? Or does the simply fuller food Marks and spenders does actually works?

Thanks

    Hi Georgette,

Yes, I have tried low-carb diets, and yes, they /can/ work.

In order to lose weight, you must eat fewer calories than you consume. It is as simple as that. No matter what you eat - cake, ice cream, or hamburger, you have to eat fewer calories than you consume.

The Atkins diet claims that it can enhance fat loss by forcing the body into ketosis - what he calls "benign dietary ketosis". This may or may not be true, I don't know.

What I do know is this:

The biggest hurdle for me to losing weight is APPETITE. If I am hungry, I can't control myself and will binge eat. So for me, the biggest benefit to a low-carbohydrate diet is APPETITE CONTROL.

The reason is simple. When you eat sugars or simple carbohydrates, your blood sugar level rises. Your body then produces insulin to deal with the sugar. When your blood sugar levels crash, you will feel hungry again. Also, repeated spikes of blood sugar levels can, over time, cause insulin resistance, leading to diabetes.

By eating a diet low in carbohydrates and high in protein and complex carbs, YOU STABILIZE YOUR BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS. By avoiding the spikes and crashes in blood sugar, I find that my appetite is much more consistent and controllable.

Eating a diet lower in carbs should reduce hunger pangs for you.

But make no mistake, eating less than your body needs to maintain its weight is always going to require some level of discomfort.

I did it back in 2007 and had wonderful results. The only problem is that if you aren't going to be able to do it your whole life do not bother trying. I lost 70 pounds in 3 months. After I started eating carbs again I gained it all back an then some. I would say that if you wanted to eat lower carb do so by eating 100 carbs a do and get them from fruits and veggies and some oatmeal or something. Just don't do what I did and eat 20 or less a day.
  • Thanks for the advise guys! Now i understand it and know what i need to do!

I've been low carb for a year and some and love it - I'm down about 40 lbs from my heaviest and am pretty much at my goal weight (maybe I could stand to lose another 5-10 lbs). Personally, I'm doing the Paleo/Primal diet. It's not necessarily low-carb, but it just ends up that way because you don't eat grains or sugar.

As maryann said though, this is a way of living. I don't plan on going back to eating bread, pasta, cookies or any of that crap.

It definitely works. I recommend giving it a shot, but keep in mind that if you go back to eating higher carb, you'll gain the weight back.

I think fufonzo is exactly right. We all should be eating a more "cave man" like diet, consisting of the foods that our bodies evolved to process healthily - natural, unprocessed foods, with few simple carbohydrates.

Prior to 1900, the average American consumed less than 5 pounds of sugar a year. Now the average American consumes over 100 pounds of sugar a year. Our bodies love the indulgence, but have not evolved to deal with that kind of diet healthily.

And it is a way of life. We need to eat the kinds of fuels our bodies are designed to burn.

I do low carb, have lost weight easily for the first time EVER despite always being active, etc. And I plan to stay low carb. Not as low as I am just now as I'm at goal now, but no bread pasta etc. Not never, as I lOVE them, but rarely, as I find them addictive and basically not filling - you can only eat so much protein!

I've found that my clients have luck with any program that they can live with.... know what I mean?

I don't care how good xxx diet is for Mary, if Joe won't eat that way then it wont work and he will be off the diet in a matter of weeks, if not sooner.

As for the low carb deal I don't subscribe to anything that tells me fruit is bad or that you shouldn't eat green beans or lettuce and, above all, that you don't have to count calories (or limit portions). I do agree that intake of processed dairy, flour and sugar should be kept to a minimum and saved for treats.

IMO moderation and counting calories works best for most.

Well said! I did the Duken diet phase one for 3 days. By the second day I could not sleep and my left leg was cramping, despite that I was still able to run for two miles. I kept my fluid around 2 liters a day. By the third day I lost 7.5 pounds. Not sure if I will continue the diet completely but I will certainly use his principles such as one day a week of pure protein, water intake, two day of week of just protein/ vegs ( my own take) plus other helpful hints.
