Today is birthday and it is a decade changing one. I have a goal to improve my health by excercising, making healthier eating habits, and losing weight. I hope to hang around to watch the grands grow up for awhile.

Happy birthday. Keep an eye on your calorie allotment. MFP took away 50 calories on my birthday last month!!

@lorrpb: that does suck, doesn't it?

The basic Mifflin - St Jeor formula daily calorie requirement for a sedentary women is:

    (10 * weight(kg) + 6.25 * height(cm) - 5 * age(y) - 161) * 1.2

(The last factor, 1.2, is the activity factor. Setting it to 1 gives BMR.)

So you are supposed to require 5kcals less per day per year of age! Zounds! (MFP seems to only change it every 10 years. Not sure why.)

Also, if you lose 22lbs (10kg), you get 100kcals less per day. Unfair after all that work!

Final word: The M-StJ formula correlates well with measurements of BMI for a group of healthy adults (I have one of the papers), but it is not highly accurate for any particular individual. So, some personal adjustment is warranted. Sorry to say, I think it overestimates in my case.

Happy birthday ... take this new decade and let it form you into the 'you' that you see yourself become.

@dixann welcome to MFP and happy birthday. I found the goal to live to see grandkids a great source of motivation myself. I will do things for others that I will not do for myself it seems.
